MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team swept Alaska Anchorage 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) Thursday, taking down the Seawolves in the New PE Building for the first time since 2012.
The Wolves (13-6 overall, 5-5 GNAC) ran away with the first set after going on a 16-3 run and holding the Seawolves (10-10, 4-6) to 14 points. Set two was more contested, with WOU and UAA going point-for-point before a late Wolves push allowed them to take the set. In set three the Wolves would pull away from the Seawolves early - leading by as much as nine and taking the final set by a six-point margin.
Madison Hornback finished with nine kills and four aces while
Bailee Hartsook had a WOU-best 10 kills and a .500 hitting percentage (10 kills, two errors, 16 attempts).
Samantha Darby had 10 assists and four aces while
Kealani Rosa had 19 assists and one ace.Â
Lauryn Johnson finished with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage (nine kills, one error, 16 attempts). Johnson and
Finley Buman each tallied three blocks.
The Wolves' nine aces in the match tied the program's NCAA-era record for team aces in a season at 191, set in 2004. The Wolves look to top the record book with WOU alums in attendance when they take the court 7 p.m. Saturday against Alaska for homecoming at New PE Building.
