Pedrojetti's 34 most by a Wolf since '08, WOU beats Multnomah in opener

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Bella Pedrojetti scored the most points by a Wolf since 2008 and Natalie Brown tied for the most rebounds in a game since 2002 as the Western Oregon women's basketball team opened the season with an 81-77 victory over Multnomah Sunday afternoon in the Wolves' season opener at New PE Building.

Pedrojetti scored a career-high 34 points - the most since Leada Berkey scored a school-record 45 points against Central Washington Feb. 21, 2008 - while Brown snagged 17 rebounds to go along with 18 points in her Wolves debut - tied for the most rebounds since Heather Laats grabbed 18 boards on Jan. 26, 2002.

WOU used a big third quarter - outscoring the Lions 23-13 to take the lead for good and never trailed for the final 13 minutes, 17 seconds of the game.

Pedrojetti finished 12-for-22 from the field, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range, while adding five rebounds to go along with her 34 points - only the sixth time in WOU's NCAA era (since 2001) that a player has scored 34 or more points in a game and the third player to do so (Berkey scored 34 or more four times, Shannon Tlbott scored 34 against UC Davis during the 2003-04 season).

Brown was 7-for-9 from the field on her way to 18 points and 17 rebounds - the fifth time since Latts' 18 rebound-game in 2002 that a Wolf has grabbed 17 rebounds in a game (last done in 2022 by Meadow Aragon). Enid Vaifanua just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds to go along with three assists while Ciona Wells led the Wolves with five assists and didn't commit a turnover in 30 minutes.

WOU returns to action Friday as it takes part in the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational in Fairbanks, Alaska, Friday against Salem's Corban University.
