Wolves beat MSUB in four, now with fourth-most wins in WOU's NCAA era

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon outlasted a feisty Montana State Billings team 3-1 (25-7, 21-25, 27-25, 25-22) Thursday night to pick up its 15th win on the season - the fourth most for the program since joining the NCAA in 2000.

The Wolves (15-9 overall, 7-8 GNAC) are only behind the 2008 team (22-3), 2012 team (21-6) and the 2007 Wolves squad (16-10) in wins during the program's NCAA era.

After a dominating first set (25-7) and stumbling in game two (25-21), the third set was tightly contested with neither team leading by more than four points. WOU fought off two game points by the Wolves - the last on a kill by Hornback to tie the match 25-25. After an attack error by the Yellowjackets (), Sidney Friesen served up an ace to close it out for WOU.

The Wolves pulled away late in the fourth set with a Maela Honma kill capping off the set and the match.

Hornback paced WOU with 16 kills to go along with 12 digs while Honma finished with 10 kills, five aces and 15 digs. Chloe Asciutto had eight kills, five blocks and an ace, Bailee Hartsook had eight kills and four blocks while Lauryn Johnson had eight kills and two blocks. Kealani Rosa (24) and Samantha Darby (20) combined for 44 of the Wolves 51 assists.

WOU hosts its final home match of the season 1 p.m. Saturday against Seattle Pacific. It's also senior day with the ceremony set to start at 12:50 p.m.
