Wolves pick up home win against Pacific

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team overcame an early deficit with a big second quarter and went 6-for-6 from the line in the final minute to defeat Pacific 86-82 Thursday at New PE Building.

The Wolves (4-5) trailed the Boxers 80-78 with 2:49 remaining before a Natalie Brown bucket with 2:13 left tied the game. The score remained 80-80 into the final minute when Brown was fouled driving to the basket with 47 seconds left, with the junior sinking both free throws to give WOU an 82-80 lead.

On the next Pacific possession, Brown came up with a block which eventually led to a turnover by the Boxers with 22 seconds left. WOU did the rest from the line with Ciona Wells and Bella Pedrojetti each draining a pair of free throws in the final 12 seconds to clinch it for the Wolves.

Pedrojetti paced the Wolves - who outscored Pacific 26-15 in the second quarter to take a 39-38 lead at the break - with 28 points, going 5-for-8 from 3-point range (the Wolves finished 8-for-17 from beyond the arc). Brown finished with 20 points and nine rebounds while Enid Vaifanua filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal.

WOU returns to action Dec. 21 when it hosts Cal Poly Humboldt.
