A LOOK INTO THE MATCHUP

  • This is the second year in a row the Wolves have played Linfield (this is an exhibition game for the Wildcats) with WOU winning last season's matchup 80-71 in the teams' first matchup since 2008 and just the second since 1997.
  • In last season's matchup - which was also played in Monmouth - the Wolves used a late 12-2 run to pull away. Qiant Myers had 19 points, 10 assists and five rebounds to lead the Wolves while Cameron Benzel had 18 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Cade Collins led five Wildcats in double figures with 14 points.
  • This will be WOU's 113th matchup against Linfield - the fourth most against any team in program history. The three schools the Wolves have played more are: Southern Oregon (202), Eastern Oregon (185) and Oregon Tech (145).
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Wolves haven't played since dropping both contests to open GNAC play - falling at Alaska 87-72 on Dec. 5 and at Alaska Anchorage 71-49 on Dec. 7. Jason Gallant averaged 15 points per game during the two games to lead WOU. Gallant leads the Wolves and is fourth in the GNAC in scoring at 17.5 points per game.
  • Linfield is coming off a 76-67 loss at hoe to Warner Pacific on Saturday. The Wildcats took an early lead in the second half, but WPU pulled away for the win. Josh Ryan led Linfield with 14 points (going 4-for-8 from 3-point range). while Garrett Callsen had 10 points and four rebounds. The Wildcats stayed in the contest by going 10-for-25 from 3-point range.
WOU NOTES
Gallant sits No. 49 on D-II active scoring list with 1,186 points
Wrapping up last season tantalizingly close to the 1,000-point mark for his collegiate career at 994 - senior point guard Jason Gallant blew threw the 1,000-point barrier in the Wolves' season-opening contest against fifth-ranked Dallas Baptast as he scored 12 points. The Simi Valley, California, native who transferred from Colorado Christian to WOU prior to his junior season now sits with 1,186 points - 49th on the NCAA Division II career active list. He's also No. 34 on the D-II career active list for assists with 282.

Gallant's double-figure scoring streak hits 20 games
Jason Gallant with his 20 points against Alaska on Dec. 5 and 10 points against Alaska Anchorage on Dec. 7 moved his double-figure scoring streak to 20 games - a streak that started Feb. 1, 2024, with a 19-point effort in an overtime loss to Simon Fraser.

10th Anniversary of WOU's first GNAC title
This season marks the 10th anniversary of the Wolves' first GNAC title in the 2014-15 season as WOU went 15-3 in conference play and 23-7 overall. It was also the first of a run of four NCAA Tournament appearances in five years for the Wolves (including an Elite 8 appearance the next year in 2015-16).

Andy Avgi became WOU's first NCAA All-American in 2014-15 (the Wolves joined the NCAA for the 2000-01 season) - selected to the fourth team (Division II Belletin All-American Team) after averaging 18.5 points and 5.9 rebounds. Overall, he is  WOU's 11th All-American all-time (first and only since Mike Venderhoff in 1999-2000).

Gallant named to Preseason All-GNAC team (Oct. 22)
Western Oregon Senior Jason Gallant was named to the GNAC Men's Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team when the conference released the team on Oct. 22. Gallant, a senior guard from Simi Valley, California, led the Wolves and was sixth in the conference in scoring last year at 15.5 points per game while he was second in the GNAC in assists (4.4) and minutes per game (36.3) in his first season at WOU. He scored a season-high 31 points against Alaska Fairbanks on Feb. 22, 2023.
