WOU's Nwokoma, Burchfield named GNAC Field Athletes of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. --- In the opening week of the indoor season, Western Oregon track and field's Ujunwa Nwokoma and Gabe Burchfield swept the GNAC Field Athlete of the Week awards released Monday.

Nwokoma improved her own school record in the indoor long jump at the Silver State Invitational and Multis on Friday by two inches - pushing it to 19 feet, 3.5 inches. It also moved the four-time GNAC champion into third on the GNAC all-time list and was good for fourth at the event. This is her fourth GNAC weekly honor.

Burchfield set a new Wolves record in the heptathlon with 4,850 points - passing former teammate JJ Walker's mark of 4,728 set in 2023. He set a PR in the 60 (7.37 seconds) while winning the high jump (1.98 meters - 6-6) and gaining the most points in the 60 hurdles by finishing second with a time of 8.59. This Burchfield's first GNAC weekly honor.

The Wolves return to action Dec. 14 at the Spokane Invitational.
