The Western Oregon softball team is coming off a GNAC postseason appearance in 2023 after going 22-30 overall and 11-13 in GNAC play in WOU alum
Aly Boytz's first season at the helm. WOU was picked in the preseason poll to finish fourth in the conference by the coaches, behind Northwest Nazarene, Western Washington and Saint Martin's.Â
The Wolves return All-GNAC Second Team outfielder
Maddie Doig (.327 AVG, .875 OPS, HR, 22 RBI, 14 2B) along with All-GNAC Honorable Mention catcher Natalie Willougby (.327 AVG, .863 OPS, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 5 2B). Also returning for the Wolves that saw at least 90-plus at-bats is catcher
Chelby Smalley (.274 AVG, .618 OPS), shortstop
Bella Valdes (.630 OPS, 15 RBI, 20 runs), outfielder
Sophie Franklin (.652 OPS, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 16 R, 6 SB) and third baseman
Sydney Conklin (.566 OPS, 9 RBI, 9 R).
In the circle, the Wolves lost its primary two pitchers from last season in
Maddie Mayer (second team all-conference) and
Chelsea Smith (honorable mention all-conference).
Erica Soliz (29.1 IP) and
Nicki Derrick (14.2 IP) both saw time last season. WOU also brought in a pair of transfers in
Mackenzee Collins (UTEP) and
Jessica Morgan (Barton CC) along with freshmen
Alivia Holden and
Penny Barnett.
