PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's and women's track & field teams nearly pulled off a conference weekly award sweep as
Ujunwa Nwokoma earned GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week,
Maliyah Thompson was selected GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week and
Mark Warren was named GNAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week when the conference announced the awards Monday.
Nwokoma broke her own school record in the indoor long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 0.75 inches at the Geroge Fox Indoor Meet #1 on Saturday in Newberg - 0.75 inches longer than her previous record. It's an NCAA provisional mark for the Clackamas, Oregon, native and ranks No. 26 in Division II this season.
Warren hit a PR in the weight throw with a distance of 57-6 (17.53 meters) Friday at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane, Washington - increasing his No. 7 mark all-time at WOU (No. 6 is 57-7.75).
Thompson won the 60 meters at George Fox Indoor #1 with a season-best 7.70 (her all-time best is 7.61, second in WOU history). She also hit a season best in the 60 hurdles at 8.90 seconds - the second-fastest time of the event.
The Wolves return to action this week as they travel to compete at the Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday in Seattle along with the David Hemery Valentine Meet on Friday and Saturday in Boston.
