LACEY, Wash. --- Pitching dominated Saturday in the Western Oregon baseball team's doubleheader at Saint Martin's with the teams splitting a pair of 1-0 games at Saints Field.
It was the Wolves (10-12 overall, 5-5 GNAC) on the good end of the first 1-0 game as
Dylan Chalmers and
Bryce Bond combined for the five-hit shutout of the Saints (8-18, 3-7). Chalmers went seven innings and gave up five hits with four strikeouts to pick up the win before Bond came in and retired six in a row (three via the strikeout) to pick up the save.
The lone run of the contest came in the sixth with
Curran Mitzel leading off the inning with a single to right before stealing second. An out later,
Emiliano Alarcon doubled down the right field lin to score Mitzel for the lone run of the contest. Alarcon and Mitzel both finished 2-for-4 in the game to lead the Wolves.Â
In game two,
Owen Murdock pitched well - but got the tough loss. The right-hander went five innings and allowed a run on four hits with three strikeouts and no walks (the Wolves didn't walk a batter Saturday).
WOU had its chances, but couldn't come through with a timely hit as WOU left 10 on base.
These two teams close out the series with a doubleheader starting at noon at Saints Field.
