MONMOUTH, Ore. --- In a contest that saw a combined 47 players play - including 20 pitchers - the Western Oregon baseball team dropped a 12-inning, non-conference contest to George Fox 3-2 Wednesday at WOU Baseball Field.
The contest was scoreless until the seventh inning when the Wolves (18-16 overall) scored on an
Emiliano Alarcon sacrifice fly that scored
Tyler Mohler to make it 1-0.
George Fox (17-12) answered in the next half inning, however, to tie it up before taking the lead in the top of the ninth 2-1.
But WOU evened things up in the bottom of the inning thanks to a two-out single to right by
Zach Valdez to score
Curran Mitzel and make it 2-2.
The game remained tied until the 12th when the Bruins scored an unearned run with two outs in the inning and WOU left the tying run on third base in its half of the inning.
Matthew Jernigan picked up the tough loss, not giving up an earned run in two innings of work with a strikeout.
Ayden Holker and
Yuzo Ishioka each pitched a pair of scoreless innings for the Wolves with Holker striking out three. WOU pitchers would strike out 10 in the game while Bruins pitchers combined to strike out 14.
John Oleson and
Randy Stultz each went 2-for-4 to lead the Wolves at the plate.
WOU returns to action Saturday at Central Washington.
