Wolves hit three homers in a row in game one, blank Saints in game two to sweep Saturday doubleheader

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team hit back-to-back-to-back homers in game one while Ayden Holker and Owen Murdock combined for a two-hit shutout in game two to sweep Saint Martin's, 7-2 and 3-0, Saturday at WOU Baseball Field.

In game one, the Wolves trailed 1-0 after the top of the first before Owen Bischoff tied it up in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI double.

And that's when things got wild.

On the first pitch, John Oleson blasted a two-run homer to left to make it 3-1. The very next pitch, Randy Stultz hit a home run to make it 4-1. Not to be outdone, Collin Irwin on the second pitch of the at-bat hit a solo homer to left to give WOU a 5-0 lead.

Three homers on four pitches and in less than two-and-a-half minutes in real time.

The Wolves cruised from there as Dylan Chalmers settled in to give up an earned run on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks. He was helped by the Wolves turning three double plays while he was on the mound as WOU turned five double plays in the contest - a GNAC high.

Stultz finished 2-for-3 with the homer and a walk while Oleson and Irwin both drove in two along with their homers.

In game two, the true freshman Holker in his first career GNAC start didn't give up a hit in his first three innings of work and tossed four shutout innings, giving up two hits while striking out six to pick up his first collegiate win. Murdock was dialed in as well, retiring all nine batters he faced with three strikeouts to pick up his first save of the season.

WOU took the lead in the first inning on a Bischoff homer to left and added two more in the fourth on an Emiliano Alarcon RBI single and a Zach Valdez sacrifice fly.

AJ Cortese was the lone Wolf with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

The two teams meet again for a doubleheader noon Sunday with the Senior Day ceremony starting for the Wolves at 11:35 a.m.
