Arturo Alvarez continued to be honored for his stellar start Sunday as he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
The right-hander in his final home start of his career didn't give up an earned run in eight innings of work with four strikeouts and five hits during the Wolves 8-1 win over Saint Martin's on the team's way to a four-game sweep. He allowed just two Saints to reach scoring position and at one point retired 11 consecutive SMU batters.
The senior moved to 7-2 on the season and now has 19 wins in his career - tied for seventh on the GNAC all-time list (19-7 - a winning percentage of .731 that now ranks 20th in GNAC history).Â
Along with a 7-2 record, Alvarez owns a 3.86 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 60.2 innings of work (third in the GNAC). For his career, the 2022 GNAC Pitcher of the Year is 19-7 with a 3.87 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 188.1 innings pitched. He's tied for 17th in GNAC history with 33 games started and is tied for 12th with an opposing batting average of .236.
