SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday as they swept day one of the Cougar Classic, staying undefeated and reaching 6-0 to start the season for the first time since 1998. The Wolves took the first match against Azusa Pacific 3-2 (26-24, 25-21, 24-26, 19-25, 15-8) before defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21).
In their first game, the Wolves took an early two set lead against the Cougars (2-3). Azusa Pacific battled back against Western Oregon, forcing a fifth set after winning sets three and four. In set five, the Cougars took an early 4-1 lead before the Wolves would end the set on a 14-4 run, taking the decisive fifth set, and with that the match.
Maela Honma finished with a team-high 15 kills, while
Madison Hornback finished with 13 kills.
Chloe Asciutto ended with nine kills, three aces and three block.
Kilinoelehua Helm finished game one with eight kills and three blocks.
Kealani Rosa finished with a single-game career-high 29 assists while

In game two for the Wolves, they again started hot, taking the first two sets from the Otters (1-6) before dropping set three. In set four, CSMB and WOU locked into a battle, with no team holding more than a four-point lead. But a four-point lead is all the Wolves would need in this match as they took care of the Otters in set four to claim the match and remain undefeated to start the season.

The Wolves take the court again for two games Saturday to close out the Cougar Classic. They take on Westmont (Calif.) at 12 p.m. before taking on tournament host Cal State San Marcos at 5 p.m.
