Hilo, HAWAII --- The Western Oregon volleyball team showed resilience Friday afternoon as the Wolves came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 (24-26, 22-25, 25-13, 28-26, 15-8) against Hawaii Pacific at the Hawai'i Fall Volleyball Challenge in Hilo, Hawaii.
The Wolves (2-0 overall) fell behind early against the Sharks (0-4), dropping the first two sets before rallying back to take set three in commanding fashion, allowing only 13 points and committing only one attack error.
WOU continued to battle hard against HPU in the fourth, with both teams staying within three points of the other before WOU scored four unanswered points - three behind the set-attack duo of
Samantha Darby and
Maela Honma - taking set four and forcing a fifth set.
The Wolves continued their commanding ways in the deciding set, opening with an 8-1 run and taking the set with a seven point margin to claim victory over the Sharks.
Honma finished the match with 13 kills and four aces, while Darby collected 22 assists. Junior
Chloe Asciutto finished with eight aces, eight kills and five blocks while
Kealani Rosa ended the match with a team-best 26 assists.
The Wolves continue Hawai'i Fall Classic action Friday night with a game against Bemidji State starting at 10 p.m. PT. Results for this game will be made available Saturday morning.
