HILO, Hawaii --- The Western Oregon volleyball team kept rolling Friday by defeating Bemidji State 3-1(25-18, 25-15, 24-26, 18-25) to close out day two of the Hawai'i Fall Volleyball Challenge.
The Wolves (3-0 overall) took an assertive lead over the Beavers (1-2) in the first two sets of the match. After dueling it out early in set one, WOU ended the opening set going on a 7-2 run to claim a 25-18 victory before continuing their hunt against BSU, taking set two with ease 25-15. The Wolves dropped set three to the Beavers after a tense battle, but quickly bounced back and took set four 25-18 - capped by a
Lauryn Johnson kill.
Johnson - a freshman - finished with 15 kills and four blocks (one solo), while senior and GNAC Preseason All-Conference player
Madison Hornback ended with 14 kills.
Samantha Darby and
Kealani Rosa continue to set up WOU points with Darby ending the match with 23 assists alongside five aces while Rosa totaled 20 assists.Â
The Wolves looke to leave Hilo undefeated and start their season with a 4-0 record for the second year in a row (last season was the first time WOU had done it since 1999) as they close out the Hawai'i Volleyball Challenge against host Hawaii at Hilo Saturday at 10 p.m. (PT).
