Jahville Collins racked up a career-high 34 points in the Wolves' 78-76 victory over Thursday in the SFU West Gym.
The Wolves (4-12 overall, 1-5 GNAC) had a one-point margin over the Read Leafs (5-12, 1-6) to start the second half, leading 37-36. SFU built distance from WOU, leading by as much as nine points with 10:24 remaining. But the Wolves answered back, going on a 16-2 run capped by an
Anjay Cortez layup, giving the Wolves a 65-63 lead with 5:10 remaining.
A late SFU push put the Red Leafs to within a point of the Wolves after a WOU foul with 5 seconds left allowed SFU to score two free throws, cutting the Wolves lead to 77-76. But the Wolves proved strong, denying SFU the game-winning basket and securing the Wolves win.
Collins led the Wolves in scoring with a career-high 34 points - going 11-for-19 from the field, 4-for-8 from 3-point range and 8-for-11 at the line - to go along with four rebounds and three assists. It's the most points in a game by a WOU player since Cameron Cranston scored 35 Jan. 6, 2022, against Montana State Billings.
Freshman
Mario Williams Jr. added 20 points - going 4-for-7 from 3-point range - while
O'shen Cazimero tallied a WOU-best six rebounds and two steals to go along with six points and three assists. WOU shot 43.3 percent (11-for-26) from 3-point range in the contest.
The Wolves take the court again 7 p.m. Saturday against Western Washington in Bellingham.
