WOU women's basketball drops season opener to Corban, 82-79

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team fell in its season opener to Corban 82-79 on Saturday afternoon at the Wolves Athletic Center.

The Wolves (0-1) led for the majority of the contest - building a 70-52 lead heading into the fourth quarter against the Warriors (5-0).

However, Corban opened the fourth on a 13-0 run to cut the WOU lead to 70-65 with 4:54 remaining in the contest. The Wolves appeared they may have weathered the storm as the lead grew back to 10 at 77-65 after a Kylani Rookstool bucket with 3:39 left.

But WOU was outscored 14-2 the rest of the way, including the Warriors sinking a 3-pointer with four seconds left to take the lead 82-79 as a final 3-pointer by WOU was off the mark.

Enid Vaifanua led five Wolves in double figures with 24 points to go along with four assists. Triniti Youngblood had 13 points, a team-high five rebounds, four assists and two steals, Natalie Brown had 12 points and four rebounds, Rookstool finished with 10 points, three rebounds and four assists, Kylie Robertson had 10 points and four rebounds and Ciona Wells finished with a team-best five assists.

WOU travels to take on Walla Walla University on Tuesday.
