MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team stayed within striking distance of 15th-ranked Alaska Anchorage for nearly three quarters Thursday, but the Seawolves pulled away late in the third and the Wolves fell 89-66 at New PE Building.
WOU (8-17 overall, 4-13 GNAC) cut UAA's lead to seven at 58-51 after
Ciona Wells drained a 3-pointer with 3:23 left in the third quarter. However, the Seawolves (25-3, 16-1) finished the quarter on a 9-0 run that eventually turned into a 16-0 run to put the Wolves down 23 with 7:39 left in the fourth.
Enid Vaifanua led WOU with 17 points to go along with five rebounds.
Bella Pedrojetti finished with 13 points - connecting on three 3-pointers to give her 58 this season, the most 3-pointers by a Wolf in the NCAA era (since 2000) and second on the WOU single-season all-time list (only trailing Stacy Jepson's 69 3-pointers in 1991-92).
Natalie Brown added 11 points and five rebounds while
Salma Youngblood had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
WOU closes out the season Saturday against Alaska.
