WOU's Warren competes in hammer at NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday

PUEBLO, Colo. --- Western Oregon senior Mark Warren looks to make a little history Thursday when he competes in the hammer at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships at CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.

The Warrenton, Oregon, native is looking to become the Wolves' first outdoor All-American since 2018 when WOU's David Ribich and Dustin Nading finished first and second in the 1,500. The Wolves' last All-American in the hammer came in 2003 when Pro Escobedo won the national title with a distance of 206 feet, 4 inches - which is still the WOU and GNAC record in the event. The last GNAC athlete to be an All-American in the hammer was Central Washington's Tyler Fischer in 2010 (there have been only three since the conference started in 2001).

Warren won his second-consecutive GNAC hammer title this season and sits with a PR of 203-5 (62.01 meters) - third on the WOU and GNAC all-time list. It also has him ranked ninth in D-II (the top eight are named All-Americans and No. 9-12 are considered Second Team All-Americans by the USTFCCCA). Ben Haas of Hillsdale is the national leader this season with a distance of 220-6 (67.21 meters).

The men's hammer throw begins 2:30 p.m. (PT) Thursday.
