About that Meeting: The Wolves and D-I Mustangs were tied 14-14 nearly midway through the unanswered quarter before Cal Poly scored 17 unanswered points to pull away for the win.
WOLVES HEADING INTO THE WEEK
WOU opened its season with a convincing 27-7 win over Southern Oregon last Saturday in Monmouth - jumping out to a 27-0 lead before a fourth-quarter by the NAIA No. 22 Raiders.Â
The Wolves defense shined as the 320 yards allowed is even deceiving as SOU racked up 151 of those in the final quarter with the game already in hand.
Dylan Camp paced WOU with eight tackles, an interception and two pass breakups against the pass-happy Raiders (who passed the ball 52 times out of 73 plays).
Offensively, the ground game for WOU accounted for 219 of the team's 389 yards of offense - led by
Jermaine Land's 139 yards on 19 carries (7.3 yards per carry).
Terayon Sweet rushed for 58 yards and a score as well for the Wolves - giving WOU a strong 1-2 punch in the back field.
Kainoa Jones went 5-for-10 passing for 33 yards while adding two rushing touchdowns while
Jordan McCarty went 8-for-17 for 137 yards and a touchdown.
Keyvaun Eady had two catches for a team-high 73 yards while
Cody Hall had a team-best four receptions for 50 yards.
CAL POLY HEADING INTO THE WEEK
The Mustangs are coming off a 63-9 loss at No. 25 Utah last week - converting a trio of field goals in the loss. They were held to 223 yards of offense while allowing 518 to the nationally ranked Utes. Three different players threw multiple passes in the game.
The week prior, Cal Poly jumped out to a 24-0 lead and never looked back in a win over San Diego. Ty Dieffenbach threw for 263 yards and two scores while rushing for another 69 yards and a score. Michael Briscoe had a team-best seven catches for 110 yards and two scores.
