IRVINE, Calif. – The Western Oregon volleyball team opened its 2025 season with a 3-1 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills (25-18, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18) on Thursday at the Concordia Kickoff Classic.

In the second set the Wolves (0-1) erased a deficit behind kills from Taya Blankenship and Maela Honma to tie the set at 24. But the Toros closed out the next two points to take a 2-0 match lead. WOU responded in the third, using strong serving from Kealani Rosa and a key block by Chloe Asciutto to pull out a 25-23 win before Dominguez Hills sealed the match in the fourth.

Blankenship finished with 12 kills and Honma added 11. Rosa totaled three aces, Asciutto posted four blocks, and Samantha Darby directed the attack with 20 assists.

The Wolves continue tournament play Friday with matches against Cal State San Marcos at 10 a.m. and Biola at 5:15 p.m.
