PORTLAND, Ore.--Twenty Western Oregon University student-athletes have been honored for their work off the cross country course, announced today by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference office.
The men's and women's GNAC Cross Country All-Academic teams feature 11 Wolves on the men's team and nine on the women's squad, present by Barnes and Noble College. That's a big leap from a year ago, when Western Oregon had 12 total honorees.
To qualify for academic all-conference, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20, must be in at least their second season competing for their team and must have competed on the course during the 2025 campaign.
On the women's side,
Maren Anderson (Biology) and
Nettle Grey (Biology) led the way with perfect 4.0 grade point averages.
Holly Hutton earned the rare honor of being named to the GNAC All-Academic Team for the fourth time.
For the men, earning perfect 4.0 status was
Benjamin Hernandez (Biology) and
Shane Yara (Interpreting Studies).
James Lackey (Exercise Science) earned the All-Academic honor for the fourth straight time, the only student-athlete this year to be so designated. Lackey has a GPA of 3.96.
