Trio of WOU records fall on first day of GNAC Indoor Championships

SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Western Oregon track and field programs saw a trio of records fall during the opening day of the GNAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Monday at the The Podium.
 
Brennen Murphy cut 0.11 seconds off his 200 WOU record with a time of 21.24 – moving him to third on the GNAC all-time list. Murphy also qualified for the 400 finals with a time of 48.01 (he also owns the school record in that event at 47.48).
 
Jack Burgett in the 60 broke his own school record with a time of 6.75 seconds – No. 23 in DII this year and tied for third on the GNAC all-time list. Jordan Vega also moved into the WOU all-time top 10 with the No. 6 time at 6.93 seconds.
 
In the 60-meter hurdles, Tate Herber broke the school record set by teammate Jackson McQuain just a week ago by .01 seconds with a time of 8.24 to qualify for Tuesday's final. McQuain ran an 8.32 to also qualify for the finals.
 
The Wolves picked up five points in the 5,000 with Matthew Resnik running a PR of 15:00.12 to finish sixth while teammate Ethan Bothwell was behind him to finish seventh (15:06.21).
 
Mason Detzler got three points for WOU in the weight throw by taking sixth with a distance of 54 feet (16.46)
 
Philip Staniunas got a point for the Wolves in the pole vault by taking seventh with a PR height of 14-3.25 (4.35 meters).
 
Also qualifying for Tuesday's finals for the men was Owen Frazier (400 – 48.67) and Landon Theisen (800 – 1:54.54).
 
On the women's side, Guinevere Rydberg just missed the podium – yet still earned five points for the Wolves in the weight throw with a distance of 53-9.75 (16.40 meters).
 
In the pentathlon, the Wolves picked up points thanks to Makenna Vierck taking fourth with the ninth-best point total in WOU history at 3,116, Olivia Boyd taking sixth with 2,983 points (10th on the WOU all-time list) and Alexa McGowan finishing seventh (2,890 points). To add to it, Vierck while competing in the pentathlon set the No. 8 mark all-time at WOU in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.11.
 
The WOU distance medley relay team of Nettle Grey, Amelia Merritt, Kaydence Nguyen and Maren Anderson took third with a time of 12:22.11 – the seventh-fastest time in school history.
 
Aaliyah Taba improved her No. 4 time in WOU history in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.00 (shaving 0.02 off her previous best) to qualify for Tuesday's final.
 
Jazmine Dotson qualified for Tuesday's final in the 60 with a time of 7.75.
 
Jazmine Liebl hit the No. 10 mark on the WOU all-time list in the 800 with a time of 2:17.72 – though she just missed qualifying for Tuesday's final.
 
Olivia Boyd picked up a point in the high jump for WOU – taking eighth with a height of 5-1 (1.55 meters).
 
As for team scores, the men's team is tied for fifth with 15 points with only five of 17 events scored while the women's team is in sixth with 22 points with six of 17 events scored.
