FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team moved to 2-2 on the season with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 27-25) sweep of UC Merced on Saturday at the Sunbird Classic at the Special Events Center.
The Wolves jumped right on UCM (0-3) with a 25-16 win in game one and took game two relatively easy, 25-22 (led 24-19 at one point). Game three appeared to be in the same mold as WOU jumped out to a 15-6 lead before Merced came back to tie it at 22. WOU got to match point at 24-22 but Merced ran off three straight points to get to its own game point at 25-24. But three straight errors by Merced gave WOU the win.
Payton Davis led WOU with 11 kills and 12 digs while
Kate Markley added seven kills,
Finley Buman had four blocks and three kills and Samatha Darby had a team-high 17 assists.
The Wolves head to Hawaii next week to take part in a tournament hosted by Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific - starting with a 3 p.m. (PT) matchup with Western Colorado at HPU.
