Gant was highly touted as a two-sport athlete coming out of high school in 2015. He became the first quarterback in the history of Arizona high school football to pass for more than 10,000 career yards and began his collegiate career as the quarterback at Arizona Western.

In his one season of college basketball, Gant averaged 9.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.4 blocks per game in 28 appearances with Phoenix College. He led the team to a conference championship. For his efforts he was named ACCAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-ACCAC. Gant led his team in every statistical category except scoring and finished in the top 5 in the Region in rebounds, assists and blocks, while leading the region in steals.
