SEATTLE - Scott Morse hit a 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds left to lift Seattle Pacific over Western Oregon 61-58 on Saturday, Jan. 28.

The win moves the Falcons (15-5, 8-3 GNAC) a game ahead of the Wolves (14-6, 7-4 GNAC) into third place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings.

WOU led by six points (58-52) with 2:38 remaining but the Falcons scored the final nine points of the game to break the Wolves' hearts. Even after Morse hit the go-ahead shot Western Oregon would have a couple of chances to tie the game. The first was right after Morse's shot when the Wolves inbounded the ball to Wheadon who rushed up the court but he was pushed to the sideline near midcourt and his foot made contact with the sideline resulting in the turnover.

After Western Oregon fouled on the inbound and Morse made both free throws for the three-point lead. WOU then inbounded the ball the length of the court to Kyle Long above the 3-point line with one second left. He grabbed the ball and spun around getting a shot off but it went right of the rim.

Long tied his season-high with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He also added six rebounds. Kolton Nelson notched 15 points for Western Oregon, and Jordan Freelander posted 10 points of his own. David Downs had 13 points for SPU and was the only Falcon in double figures.

Western Oregon held Seattle Pacific to just 25 percent shooting from long range in the game, while WOU made 16-of-18 shots at the free throw line.

The Wolves will now come home to face GNAC leader Western Washington on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Monmouth. The Wolves beat the Vikings earlier this season in Bellingham 83-73.
