MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon men's basketball team returns to action this week when the Wolves host Shorter to conclude non-conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7:00 p.m.

The Wolves enter the contest with a mark of 6-3 on the season after falling to Utah State, 86-57, last week. WOU has won six NCAA Division II games in a row; however, as the Wolves enter the week averaging 78.6 points per contest.

Andy Avgi, the freshman forward who has led the Wolves in scoring for five straight games, continues to lead the Wolves as he ranks second in the league in scoring at 21.0 points per game. Jordan Wiley (11.9 ppg) and Rodney Webster (11.3 ppg) are also averaging in double figures for the Wolves as WOU is shooting 44.4 percent from the field.

On the defensive side of the ball, WOU is holding opponents to 77.2 points per game and 44.2 percent from the field as the Wolves rank fourth in the league in steals with 8.8 per game. The effort has allowed WOU to rank second in the conference with a +4.4 turnover margin this season. Freshman Devon Alexander leads the league in steals with 2.9 per game.

Shorter, an institution currently in transition to NCAA Division II, enters the week with a mark of 6-2 on the season after the Hawks cruised past Clark Atlanta, 83-67, last week. CJ Davis leads four Shorter players in double figures at 16.3 points per game as the Hawks are averaging 89.1 points per game.

The meeting with the Hawks will mark the first in the series between the two schools.

Admission to the contest is $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students and seniors as WOU students are admitted for free with a valid school identification card.

Following the game against the Hawks, WOU will not return to action until Saturday, Jan. 5, when the Wolves travel to Lacey, Wash., for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game against Saint Martin's at 7:30 p.m.
