SEATTLE, Wash. – At the Husky Invite Saturday hosted by the University of Washington inside the Dempsey Indoor Center, Western Oregon University's track & field teams set numerous personal records and had two student-athletes nearly earn provisional qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
Freshman
Cody Warner began the meet for the Wolves by posting a NCAA Division II provisional time of 6.89 seconds in the 60 meter dash to finish second in his heat, but he would not move on to the final after finishing a mere 0.03 seconds outside the top eight to qualify for the finals.
Sophomore
Rachel Crawford was the next WOU runner to post a personal best when she was clocked at 5:12.94 in the mile run to finish 13th in her heat, as she now ranks seventh in school history in that event.
Senior
Brady Beagley was the next runner to perform well for Western Oregon, as he won his heat in the mile run with a time of 4:11.20 that was over one second faster than the University of Arizona's Michael Godbout.
In the first 400 meter dash of her young career, freshman
Suzanne Van De Grift finished fourth in her heat with a time of 1:00.94 en route to setting a personal record.
Senior
Rebecca Laible and freshman
Kylie Reinholdt would get this season started in the triple jump with marks of 10.94 (35-feet, 10.75-inches) and 10.71 (35-feet, 1.75-inches) meters, respectively, to finish sixth and 12th, respectively, in their heat.
Junior
Emmi Collier would round out the personal records for Western Oregon, as she earned a mark of 13.20 meters (43-feet, 3.75-inches) in the shot put to finish fourth in her flight. With her throw, Collier nearly earned a NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Western Oregon returns to action next weekend at the Cougar Indoor hosted by Washington State University on February 6 & 7 in Pullman, Washington.
