FINAL RESULTSSEATTLE, Wash. – In its final competition before the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor Championships, Western Oregon University's track & field team took part in the UW Indoor Open hosted by the University of Washington Sunday inside the Dempsey Indoor Center.
On the men's side, freshman
Rihei Grothmann began the day for the Wolves by setting a personal record in the 60 meter hurdles posting a time of 8.95 seconds to finish second in his heat and nearly qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships missing the provisional time by a mere 0.68 seconds. Along with Grothmann, sophomore
Dustin Camarillo also competed in the 60 meter hurdles and posted a personal best time of 8.92 seconds finishing second in his heat as well.
In the weight throw, freshman
Kegan Allen competed in the first meet of his collegiate career registering a mark of 14.13 meters (46-04.25) and came within three meters of recording a provisional mark for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
Three Wolves – senior
Chris Stash, sophomore
Josh Dempsey, and freshman
Parker Marson – competed in the 800 meter run, as Dempsey posted a collegiate personal record with a time of 1:56.68 followed by season bests for both Stash (1:58.39) and Marson (1:58.97). The trio came within five seconds of posting provisional times for the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
On the women's side, sophomore
Laura Patrick posted a lifetime personal record in her first race of the year recording a time of 8.13 seconds in the 60 meter dash to finish within 0.40 seconds on meeting the NCAA Division II provisional time. Patrick also competed in the 200 meter dash and dropped her season-best time ot 26.82 seconds coming within 1.76 seconds of registering a provisional time for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.
In the women's high jump, freshman
Cherise Kirkpatrick and junior
Sam Moore posted personal records with marks of 1.53 (5-00.25) and 1.48 (4-10.75) meters, respectively, to finish third and fifth overall. The Wolves' duo both came within 0.23 meters of meeting the NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Freshman
Suzanne Van De Grift won her heat in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:39.56, which was exactly four seconds ahead of the runner-up, Robyn Brown of the University of Hawaii. The first-year Wolf also improved her personal best time by over two seconds in the process.
In the 800 meter run, sophomore
Rachel Crawford came within five seconds of earning a provisional time thanks to a time of 2:20.43 which was good enough for third in her heat.
Western Oregon returns to competition at next week's GNAC Indoor Championships held Thursday through Saturday, February 19-21, in Nampa, Idaho.
