FINAL RESULTSPULLMAN, Wash. – Western Oregon University's track & field team took part in the two-day Cougar Indoor hosted by Washington State University over the weekend, as the Wolves continue to post excellent marks throughout the beginning of the indoor season.
On the women's side,
Rochelle Pappel finished sixth in her heat of the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 9.24 seconds to advance to the finals where she posted an even better time of 9.14 seconds behind a quartet of Washington State runners and an athlete from Linfield.
In the 400 meter run, Aubrey Hellesto and Suzie Van De Grift finished 1-2 in their heat and completed the race in second and third place overall in times of 1:00.60 and 10:00.62, respectively.
Stephanie Stuckey set a new personal record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.44, which was good enough for fourth overall behind the winner from Washington State.
In the women's weight throw, all four Western Oregon athletes –
Emmi Collier,
Allison Cook,
Alex Green, and
Leah Nicklason – posted personal records with throws of 14.26 (46-9.50), 13.50 (44-3.50), 13.00 (42-8.00), and 10.78 (35-4.50) meters, respectively.
On the men's side,
Josh Hanna would record the highlight of the day for Western Oregon taking home the title in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:54.36 that was over a 1.12 seconds fastest that the runner-up and nearly two seconds ahead of teammate
Sam Naffziger.
In the mile run,
Brady Beagley finished second behind unattached runner Andrew Jordan in a time of 4:19.58 to be the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line ahead of five NCAA Division I competitors.
In the 60 meter hurdles,
Kaleb Dobson won his heat in a time of 8.47 seconds before finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 8.44 seconds that was behind a pair of Washington State runners.
Beagley would repeat his solid performance on the track in the 3,000 meter run finishing third overall in a time of 8:47.49, while
David Ribich and
Zach Holloway also posted Top 10 finished with times of 8:56.40 and 9:04.28, respectively.
Western Oregon returns to action on next weekend – Friday and Saturday, February 13 & 14 – at the two-day Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington inside the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle.
