Sam Moore posted a lifetime personal best in the heptathlon with 4,048 points en route to finishing eighth overall at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Multi-Event Championships Tuesday at the Saint Martin's Track & Field Complex.
With her finish, Moore earns one point for the Wolves toward the team total at this year's GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Heading into next month's championships, Alaska Anchorage leads with a combined 23 points after claiming first, second, and fourth in the heptathlon followed by Seattle Pacific (nine points), Western Washington (4), Central Washington (2), and Western Oregon (1).
After Day #1, Moore was in ninth place overall with 2,422 points before her performance over the final three events vaulted her up one spot following a combined 1,626 points on Day #2.
The second and final day of competition began with the long jump where Moore placed sixth overall with a mark of 4.95 meters (16-3), which was a lifetime personal best for her, as she earned 546 points to raise her five-event total to 2,968 points.
In the javelin throw, Moore placed fourth overall with a distance of 31.36 meters (102-10) to set a personal best by nearly two meters. She would earn 502 more points increasing her six-event total to 3,470 points.
The seventh and final event helped Moore earn 578 more points, as she clocked a time of 2:39.55 in the 800 meter run surpassing her lifetime best by more than six seconds en route to concluding the heptathlon with 4,048 points.
Moore's total was 66 points better than her previous lifetime best of 3,982 points that was set earlier this season at the Mt. Hood Multis.
Western Oregon will now turn its attention toward the OSU High Performance Meet on Thursday and Friday, April 30 & May 1, at the Whyte Track & Field Center in Corvallis. All field events except the hammer throw will begin at noon in Corvallis, as the hammer will take place on WOU's campus at 4 PM. All track events will be contested in Corvallis also starting at 4 PM.
