FINAL RESULTSGRESHAM, Ore. – Fourteen personal records were set by Western Oregon University's track & field teams at the Mt. Hood Track Festival held Saturday at Earl Klapstein Stadium, as the Wolves competed for the final time before next week's Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
On the women's side, nine personal records were set led by freshman
Alecia Falck with PRs in the discus and hammer with throws of 38.68 (126-11) and 34.51 (113-3) meters, respectively. Along with Falck, sophomore
Leah Nicklason also set a personal record in the discus with a mark of 36.47 meters (119-8).
Freshman
Megan Rose would begin the day for the Wolves with a personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.67 seconds, while fellow freshman
Suzanne Van De Grift would set a season best time of 59.43 seconds in the same event.
Senior
Laura Knudson would capture the first of two Wolves' individual titles with a personal record time of 1:05.16 in the 400 meter hurdles, while sophomore
Felicia Covey won Section 2 of the 400 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 1:07.76 followed by freshman
Sara Madden with a PR time of 1:07.76 in the same event.
Freshman
Teiryn Brennan posted a second place finish in the pole vault after clearing the bar with a personal record mark of 2.88 meters (9-5.25), while fellow freshman
Kylie Reinholdt posted WOU's final personal record with a leap of 5.18 meters (17-0) in the long jump.
Senior
Rebecca Laible would round out the competition for Western Oregon, as she captured the triple jump with a season best mark of 11.68 meters (38-4) to win by 0.18 meters.
On the men's side, five personal records were set by a quintet of underclassmen –sophomore
Josh Dempsey, sophomore
Lucas Clark, freshman
Kegan Allen, freshman
Jacob Kantola, and freshman
Chris Mudder – in four different events.
Dempsey would post a personal record in the 1,500 meter run winning Section 2 in a time of 3:57.60.
Clark and Mudder would post PRs in the discus throw with marks of 38.92 (127-8) and 37.53 (123-1) meters, respectively, while Allen's personal record came in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.24 meters (148-5). Kantola would round out the personal records in the long jump with a leap of 6.36 meters (20-10.50).
The highlight of the day came in the 800 meter run, as junior
Badane Sultessa became the second WOU runner this season to earn a NCAA Division II provisional time in the event. Sultessa would finish second overall in a time of 1:51.13, as he moved to 20th in the country.
Western Oregon will now turns its attention toward next week's GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships that begin on Friday, May 8, with field events starting at 2 PM inside McArthur Stadium on WOU's campus in Monmouth.
