MONMOUTH, Ore.—Closing out the season, the Western Oregon University will host Simon Fraser University on Saturday, Nov. 11 at McArthur Field. Kick off against the Clan is set for 1:05 p.m.
SENIOR DAY: Prior to the kick off, WOU Athletics will honor the 24 senior members of the team that will be playing their final collegiate game… Of the 24 seniors, a dozen student-athletes have represented the Wolves for at least four seasons.
ABOUT SIMON FRASER (0-9, 0-7 GNCA): The Clan will be looking to avoid their second straight winless season win they visit WOU on Saturday… SFU enters the week with a 32-game losing skid with their last victory a 53-31 triumph at home against the South Dakota School of Mines on Oct. 18, 2014… SFU has been outscored by an average of 58.6 to 9.3 and have been shut out in three of their last five contests… WOU defeated SFU, 82-21, in Burnaby on Oct. 7... Quarterback Miles Richardson has thrown for 194.7 yards per game this season with 9 touchdowns versus 16 interceptions… Jalen Jana leads the team's ground game with 226 yards on 47 carries… Jana is also second on the team with 25 receptions… Justin Buren leads the team with 36 catches for 426 yards.
THE SERIES: WOU hold a 16-1 edge in the series since 2000 with SFU's lone win a 21-17 victory on Nov. 4, 2000… WOU has won 20 straight matchups against the Clan… The Wolves posted a 33-7 victory at home against SFU last season.
DUCKWORTH SEASON RECORDS WATCH: Senior
Nick Duckworth has posted a number of all-time top-10 marks with the ability to climb several spots on the charts in the season finale… Duckworth is ranked No. 6 in WOU history with 343 passing attempts and could climb to as high as No. 2 (377 attempts)… His 188 completions are good for No. 5 in a single season with No. 2 (200 completions) in range… His 2,272 passing yards stands at No. 7 and is within striking distance of No. 4 (2,430 yards).
REVIS AMONGST DII LEADERS: In 10 games this season, senior
Paul Revis has hauled in 88 catches for 1,011 yards… His 8.8 receptions per game average is tied for second in NCAA DII along with Stonehill's Andrew Jamiel… Central Oklahoma's J.T. Luper holds the DII lead with 9.5 receptions per game... Revis' 1,011 receiving yards is good for No. 10 and his 106.1 yards per game mark is good for No. 15 in the nation.
REVIS SEASON RECORDS: In only seven games,
Paul Revis set a WOU single season record for receptions against Central Washington on Oct. 14, breaking Brad Satran's 2003 mark of 71 catches… Revis now has three of the top four single-season marks with 70 catches in 2016 and 67 catches in 2014… Revis holds the single-season touchdown reception and receiving yards marks with 11 scoring grabs and 1,149 yards in 2014… His current rate of 8.8 receptions per game is easily the school record for a single season, topping Satran's average of 7.1 in 2003... Revis has the top two totals for all-purpose yards in a single season with a school record 2,029 yards (184.5 ypg) in 2014.
3X1K: Revis eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving plateau last week to reach the mark for the third straight season…He enters the season finale with 1,011 yards and is 46 yards shy of his 2016 total and 148 shy of his school record of 1,149 yards from 2014.
SOLID SALDANA: Kicker Adrian Saldana has converted 11 field goal attempts this season to tie for fourth in a single season at WOU… Andrew Keippele holds the school mark with 14 conversions in 2002… Saldana's field goal rate of 73.3 percent (11-for-15) is No. 1 all-time at WOU… Saldana set a school record with 10 extra points against Simon Fraser on Oct. 7.
DUCKWORTH TIES SCHOOL TD RECORD: Nick Duckworth tossed six touchdowns against Simon Fraser on Oct. 7 to tie former Wolf Ryan Bergman for the single-game high in school history… Bergman set the record at home against Dixie State on Sept. 21 2013.
HIGHBURGER GNAC POW (Nov. 6): For the second time this season, WOU linebacker
Bo Highburger has been named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week… Highburger recorded 15 tackles, including seven solo stops, against Azusa Pacific on Saturday… The total was the fourth time this season Highburger registered at least 10 tackles… Highburger also recovered a fumble against the Cougars.
REVIS GNAC POW (Oct. 23): Paul Revis had a pair of punt returns for 100 yards, including a 90-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter to give the Wolves a 17-14 lead against No. 22-ranked Humboldt State... The return was the second longest in both WOU and GNAC history and the fourth touchdown on a punt return in Revis' career… The senior finished the day with 189 all-purpose yards with 89 receiving yards.
JOHNSON GNAC POW (Sept. 25): Tyler Johnson came up with 17 tackles, two tackles for loss and forced a fumble, which later resulted in a touchdown, against Humboldt State on Sept. 23. Johnson also had an interception in the fourth quarter. His 17 tackles was tied for the sixth most in a single game in WOU history.
SALDANA, ANDERSON GNAC POWS (Sept. 18): After a 58-21 win at Western New Mexico State, WOU junior
Adrian Saldana and redshirt freshman
Curtis Anderson were named the GNAC Players of the Week… Anderson earned the defensive honor after recording seven tackles (3 solo, 4 assists) and picking off two passes… Anderson's second interception was returned 72 yards for a touchdown… Saldana scored 14 points to earn the Special Team Player of the Week honor… Saldana made 3-of-4 on field goal attempts, including a 38-yarder, and was 5-of-5 on extra points.
HIGHBURGER GNAC POW (Sept. 11): Senior linebacker
Bo Highburger was tabbed as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11 after his performance against Central Washington University… Highburger totaled 10 tackles, including one sack and a fumble recovery in the 30-23 loss in Ellensburg… Highburger returned the fumble recovery 79 yards for a touchdown to help the Wolves recover from a 24-3 deficit and finish within a single score of the Wildcats.
OFFENSIVE RETURNERS: WOU returns a pair of quarterbacks with starting experience with
Nick Duckworth and
Phillip Fenumiai returning for their senior seasons… Duckworth led the team with 1,387 passing yards and 10 touchdowns while Fenumiai paced the team with 480 rushing yards… The team's top two receivers return in
Paul Revis and
Keoni Piceno… Revis led the GNAC with 70 receptions and 1,057 yards… Piceno caught 34 passes for 333 yards… Several familiar faces are also back along the offensive line with
Brad Christensen (7 starts),
Bryson Dizon (8 starts) and
Ron Rose (8 starts) back in the mix.
DEFENSIVE RETURNERS: Linebackers
Tyler Johnson and
Bo Highburger headline the defensive side of the ball with both players starting all 10 games… Highburger finished the year with a team-high 111 tackles (63 solo) while Johnson tallied 65 tackles (37 solo) and five sacks…
Nathan Jones,
Trebriel Larry and
Derek Parnell return as the most experienced defensive backs with all three receiving multiple starting assignments a year ago.
GNAC PRESEASON POLL: Western Oregon was picked to finish fourth according to the GNAC Coaches' Preseason Poll… Defending champion Azusa Pacific received all five first-place votes to lead the pack… Central Washington and Humboldt State went second and third in the poll while Simon Fraser was picked to place fifth.
2016 RECAP: WOU finished 2016 with a 4-6 overall record and a 3-5 mark in GNAC contests… The Wolves opened the season with a 38-30 win at NCAA DI Sacramento State with WOU outgaining the Hornets 180 to 133 on the ground… WOU also played at NCAA DI Montana State to complete its non-conference schedule… The Wolves went 2-2 in the first half of GNAC play with a 48-42 win at then No. 24-ranked Humboldt State.
Game #10 Recap: Azusa Pacific def. Western Oregon, 41-16
Trailing after the first quarter, Azusa Pacific University outscored Western Oregon 21-0 in the second en route to a 41-16 win on Nov. 4… The Wolves generated touchdowns on two of their first three possessions to stake a 13-7 lead.
Devon Fortier opened the account with an 8-yard run at the 9:57 mark. APU retaliated immediately with a 58-yard strike by Darrell Adams to Tyrone Williams while
Paul Revis caught a 2-yard toss from
Nick Duckworth seconds before the end of the first quarter to regain the lead for the home team… From there on out, however, Azusa Pacific's defense stiffened by forcing five punts and stopping the Wolves on downs on three occasions. The APU offense, meanwhile, generated a pair of lengthy drives in the second half to consume the clock and maintain the advantage… Kurt Scoby capped the Cougars' final two scoring drives with touchdown runs, the first from 19 yards out and the second via a 1-yard plunge following a goal line stop by the APU defense… Scoby ended the day with 107 yards rushing on 20 attempts. WOU's Fortier edged Scoby for the top tally of the day with 105 yards on 18 carries for a 5.4 average on the ground…Williams threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns after completing 19-of-29 passes. Duckworth recorded 243 yards on 20-of-47 passing with the one touchdown to Revis.

Converting 4 of 5 chances inside the red zone with touchdowns, Tarleton State defeated Western Oregon, 28-6, in non-conference football action inside Memorial Stadium on Oct. 28... TSU scored the game's first 14 points and after a scoreless second quarter, Western Oregon broke through with a 9-play drive that finalized with a 1-yard bulldozing effort by
Caleb Tingstad to make it a 14-6 spread… The Texans' defense held the Wolves scoreless for the remainder of the game to preserve the win... TSU's defense posted five sacks, an interception and a forced fumble... The WOU linebacking trio of
Andrew Weber,
Tyler Wharf and
Bo Highburger combined for 30 of the team's 68 tackles with Weber posting a career-high 14 stops.
Game #8 Recap: #22 Humboldt State def. Western Oregon, 42-32
Trailing 17-14 in the second half, No. 22 Humboldt State used a run of 21 unanswered points to defeat Western Oregon University, 42-32, at the Redwood Bowl… The Lumberjacks controlled the start of the game with a pair of touchdowns inside the opening five minutes of play… Robert Webber tossed a 53-yard scoring pass to Marjani Ellison to open the account while Ja'Quan Gardner stumbled in for a 17-yard TD run to make it a 14-0 spread… Responding before the break, the Wolves placed 17 straight points on the board with quarterback
Phillip Fenumiai scoring on a 1-yard rush,
Adrian Saldana drilling a 40-yard field goal and
Paul Revis taking a 90-yard punt to the end zone to give the Wolves a 17-14 lead with 9:08 left in the first half… HSU regained the lead before the break as Gardner punctuated a pair of Lumberjack drives with short-yardage touchdowns… The Jacks extended their lead to 35-17 near the end of the third quarter and finished with a 475 to 323 edge in total yards… Gardner, the GNAC's all-time leading rusher, ended the night with 215 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 31 attempts… Fenumiai completed 12-of-27 attempts for 221 yards.
