Wolves post a dozen top-3 results at L&C Spring Break Open

PORTLAND, Ore.—Including event wins by Grayson Burke and Justin Crosswhite, the Western Oregon men's and women's track & field teams combined to secure 12 different top-three finishes while continuing its outdoor season at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on Saturday.

Burke topped the field in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.47 seconds while Crosswhite led a 1-2 finish in the 1,500-meter run with a 3:57.40. Crosswhite was followed by teammate Thomas Normandeau (3:59.17) while a third Wolf, Tyler Jones, also cracked four minutes with a 3:59.53 for fourth place.

In the 800, Curt Knott and Dominick Marshall went 2-3 with Knott crossing in 1:55.70 to edge Marshall's 1:56.89.

The WOU men also recorded runner-up finishes in the 200-meter dash and long jump. Codi Blodgett settled for second place with a 22.57 in the 200 while Alani Troutman soared 22-1 3/4 (6.75m) for silver in the long jump.

Competing in the 400-meter hurdles, Sara Madden toured the track in 1:05.87 for the team's fifth second-place result. Nicole Niskanen followed in 1:06.67 to give the Wolves two in the top three in the one-lapper.

Taking third place in their respective events were Jackson Stallard and Jalon Fields. Stallard earned bronze in a pair of events by clocking a 16.89 in the 110-meter hurdles and topping the bar at 13-8 1/4 (4.17m) in the pole vault. Fields, meanwhile, landed at 44-10 3/4 (13.68m) in the triple jump.
 
The Wolves will return to action next week as a split squad with compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival (March 30-31) and the Stanford Invitational (March 31-April 1) while others will compete at the Pacific Open (March 31).
