COMPLETE RESULTS

SALEM, Ore.—Ramping up its contingent of competitors as the early portion of the outdoor season rolls on, the Western Oregon track & field team posted a number of career best marks at the Willamette Invitational on Saturday.

The Wolves captured event titles in a pair of events as Parker Marson topped the field in the 1,500-meter run with a career-best 3:57.24 while the women's 1,600-meter relay team turned in a meet-winning and school record time of 3:49.89.

The quarter of Megan Rose, Grayson Burke, Suzanne Van De Grift, and Olivia Woods toured the track more than a full second faster than Simon Fraser's 3:51.11 to take gold. The time erased the team's 2011 former school record mark of 3:51.07.

Individually, Rose posted the No. 4 mark in the GNAC in the 400 with a time of 58.11 to take second place in he one-lapper. Madden placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles for the No. 5 time in the GNAC at 1:04.43 and Burke took second in the 800 with the GNAC's current No. 4 time at 2:17.36.

The lone NCAA DII qualifier by a WOU athlete occurred in the javelin throw as freshman Darian Wilson, unleashed a 135-8 (41.36m). The mark landed for a second-place result and the No. 6 distance in the GNAC so far this spring.

In the short sprints, Codi Blodgett and Devon Fortier snared third and fifth place, respectively in the 100. Their times of 10.87 and 10.95 rest in the top eight on the GNAC performance list. Fortier returned with a 22.74 in the 200 for the No. 8 time so far this year in the conference.

Moving to the 800, Curt Knott crossed with the No. 2 time in the GNAC with a career-best 1:54.77 while cruising to runner-up honors. Teammates Justin Crosswhite (1:55.38) and Thomas Normandeau (1:55.81) also recorded sub 1:56s in the event for fourth and fifth place.

In the long jump, Alani Troutman fell shy of his season best distance but recorded a 21-7 1/4 for fourth place while Jalon Fields settled for seventh in the triple jump at 42-6 (12.95m).

Chris Steffey led the WOU efforts in the throwing disciplines by registering a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a 47-7 (14.50m) and a seventh-place finish in the discus with a 148-10 (45.36m).

The Wolves will return to competition next week with members of the team competing at the San Francisco Distance Carnival (March 30-31), the Stanford Invitational (March 31-April 1) and the Pacific Open (March 31).
