STANFORD, Calif.—Flirting with the school record, Western Oregon University senior David Ribich clocked a career best in the 800-meter run while competing at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.

Ribich completed two circuits around the Cobb Track in 1:48.09 to shave more than a full second off his previous low. Ribich placed second overall behind Nike's Nigel Amos and came within a half of a second from the WO all-time school record of 1:47.59 set by Badane Sultessa in 2015.

Ribich's mark, a DII automatic qualifier, also stands No. 2 in all of DII behind CSU Pueblo's Thomas Staines (1:47.96).

In the women's 800 a tri of Wolves dipped under the 2:10 barrier with Suzanne Van De Grift leading the charge with a lifetime best 2:08.89. Megan Rose and Olivia Woods followed with times of 2:09.30 and 2:09.78.

Rose's time fell .25 off her outdoor best of 2:09.05 while Woods, the school record holder, registered a 2:08.38 last year. All three women hit the NCAA DII Provisional qualifying standard.

Competing in the triple jump, Jalon Fields was the final WOU competitor at Stanford on Saturday with a clearance of 45-0 1/4 (13.72m) for ninth place in the invitational section.

Over at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Grayson Burke turned in a career best 2:15.33 in the women's 800 while AJ Holmberg (1:53.02), Thomas Normandeau (1:53.39) and Curt Knott (1:53.56) all crossed in under 1:54.

WOU will return to action next week when the team hosts the John Knight Twilight on Friday, April 6.
