CORVALLIS, Ore.—With 13 runners in the 1,500 field at the OSU High Performance Meet and at the Pacific Twilight, the Western Oregon University middle distance racers highlighted Friday's competitions.
At Oregon State,
Suzanne Van De Grift posted WOU's highest result with a 4:29.13 for 14th place overall. Van De Grift's time was just over a second off her career best of 4:28.10 set last week in California.
Kennedy Rufener clocked a career best 4:36.00 to shave more than two seconds off her previous fastest time of 4:38.79 set earlier in the month at the John Knight Twilight. The time moves Rufener into the No. 5 position all-time in WOU's record books.
In the men's 1,500,
Tyler Jones established a new career best with a 3:55.13 for WOU's top showing.
Parker Marson also cracked the 4-minute barrier with a 3:58.20 while
Thomas Normandeau (4:02.01) and
Hunter Mosman (4:04.35) finished strides away from dipping under the mark.
Over at the Pacific Twilight,
Kendra Zimmerdahl and
Matthew Haglund also set career bests in the 1,500.
In the team's lone event win of the day,
Jacob Collins won the pole vault after matching his season high of 13-7 1/4 (4.15m). Moving to the shot put,
Owen Collins launched a season-best with a 43-3 3/4 (13.20m) for seventh place.
Owen Collins also placed third overall in the hammer with a 140-1 (42.71m).
The Wolves will continue its representation at the OSU High Performance on Saturday with the opening event on the track beginning at 1 p.m. Action in the field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with both the men's and women's shot put.
