Wilson takes 5th in heptathlon at GNAC Champs

NAMPA, Idaho—Moving up from 10th place to start the day, Western Oregon freshman Darian Wilson placed fifth overall in the heptathlon at the GNAC Championship son Tuesday.

Wilson scored 4,519 total points in the seven-discipline event and picked up four points in the team standings for the Wolves.

In the men's decathlon, Jackson Stallard placed 10th overall with 5,887 points while Mitchell Kruse placed 13th with 5,118 points.

In a consistent series, Wilson placed fifth in the long jump to open the day and add 654 points to her total. The freshman went on to top the field in the javelin throw with a toss of 137-4 (41.84m) for 703 points. The tally was almost 100 more than the next highest haul as Wilson's mark was a full 15 feet farther than the runner-up result. Wilson closed out the day with a 2:34.79 in the 800 for 634 points.

Stallard's top performance on the second day occurred in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 13-7 1/4 (4.15m) for 659 points. Stallard also topped 600 points in the 110-meter hurdles in the opening event of the second day after crossing with a 17.07.

Securing 674 points in the 1,500, Kruse closed out the day with his best single-event total. Kruse clocked a 4:40.98 for the fifth fastest time in the decathlon field.

Team points from the GNAC Combined Event Championships carry over to the GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which run May 11-12 in Monmouth, Ore. Seattle Pacific will carry 18 points into the women's competition while Central Washington will take nine points in. The Wildcats' men will carry 21 points into the conference meet while Northwest Nazarene picked up 13 points.
