STANFORD, Calif.--Competing in the elite section of the 1,500 at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational, Western Oregon senior
David Ribich placed 10th overall with a time of 3:45.74.
Trailing just the pacesetters through the first 700 meters, Ribich hovered around the lead for the first two thirds of the race.
In a field comprised of several Olympians, including multiple medalists at the Olympic Games, Ribich was overcome in the final lap. Jakob Ingebrigtsen, a 17-year od prodigy from Norway, topped the star-studded field with a 3:39.06. Paul Chelimo, a silver medalist in teh 5,000 at the 2016 Summer Olympics, placed second with a 3:40.16
Ribich set the all-time NCAA DII record in the 1,500 with a 3:37.35 estabished at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invite on April 20.
