HAYWARD, Calif.--Closing out the action at the Mike Fanelli Classic, a trio of Western Oregon middle distance runners established careers bests in the 800-meter run on Saturday.
Curt Knott paced a squad of six Wolves in the two-lap race with an all-time best 1:52.26. The time slashed more than a half of a second off Knott's previous low of 1:52.78.
Though missing the NCAA DII provisional barrier of 1:52.03, Knott's time jumped the junior into the No. 9 slot on the national performance list. Knott easily won his section of the race and placed second overall out of 131 competitors. Wyatt Gatrost, competing for NCAA DI's South Dakota State, posted the fastest time of the day with a 1:51.73.
Parker Marson placed 20th overall with a 1:54.70 while
Zach Kanelis and
Hunter Hutton also dipped into the 1:54s. Both registering career-best times, Kanelis clocked a 1:54.83 and Hutton a 1:54.89.
On the women's 800,
Olivia Woods finished in 29th place with a 2:14.50. Competing in the 2-mile run, WOU's
Danel Camacho crossed in 12:16.81 for 11th place.
A day after upping her national standing in the javelin,
Darian Wilson set a new season best in the long jump with a 17-9 3/4 (5.43m). Wilson's distance was good for third place.
The Wolves will return to action on Friday, April 5 when they host the John Knight Twilight.
