Track and field to open outdoor season at Willamette and Linfield Meets

SALEM, MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – With the indoor season almost complete and the national championships a week away, several of the Western Oregon University track and field student-athletes will now turn their attention to opening the outdoor season this week at both the Willamette Opener and Linfield Icebreaker.

At the Willamette Opener, Jarren Ford will compete in the men's 100-meter, along with Mitch Kruse and Eli Nafziger. Lauren Berry will compete in the women's 100-meter.

Bethani Altamirano, Rachel Bayly and Makenzie Smith are set to compete in the women's 200-meter.

Lashaun Emile will run in the men's 400-meter. Four Wolves will compete in the women's 400-meter in Altamirano, Bayly, Grayson Burke and Sarra Soladey.

Several Wolves will run in the men's 800-meter in Carson Austin, Chase Eckenfels, Teylor Howard, Emmett Klus, Dustyn McKenney, Bryce Mefford and Trey Reed. Jillian Greene will run in the women's 800-meter.

In the men's 1,500-meter, Neal Cranston will compete for WOU, along with Stephen Fey. In the women's 1,500-meter, Greene and Grace Knapp will run for the Wolves.

Kaylin Cantu will compete in the women's 5k.

Ana Popchock and Smith will compete in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Popchock, Soladey and Michaela Yonkman will all compete in the women's 400-meter hurdles.

Brennen Sorah, Deshaun Stevens and Jake Thompson will all go in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Staying with the hurdles, Aaron Hanible will compete in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

In the men's high jump, Devin Hasher and Antonio Robledo will compete for the Wolves. In the women's high jump, Smith and Kaylee Wright will go for the Wolves.

Kruse will compete in the men's pole vault.

In the men's long jump, Jacob Flury, Kruse, Nafziger, Garret Phelps, Sorah, Stevens and Thompson will all compete for the Wolves. In the women's long jump, Berry will enter for the Wolves.

In the men's triple jump, Flury and Robledo are set to compete for the Wolves.

In the men's shot put, Sam Cole, Karsten Collins, Owen Collins, Nick Sieber and Chris Steffey will throw for the Wolves. In the men's discus, Owen Collins, Karsten Collins, Kruse, Sieber and Steffey will enter for the Wolves.

In the men's javelin, Sorah, Stevens and Thompson will enter for the Wolves. In the women's javelin, Lyndee McLauchlin, Darian Wilson and Wright will go for the Wolves.

A handful of Wolves will travel to the Linfield Icebreaker with Cantu set to compete in the women's 1k. Sawyer Heckard will run in the men's 10k. Dominic Giordano and Hunter Mosman will compete in the men's 3k meter steeplechase.

Karsten Collins, Owen Collins and Sam Cole were all accepted to also compete in the throws, but will compete at Willamette.

The Linfield Erik Anderson Memorial will start at 9 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. The Willamette Opener will take place on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. and live stats for that meet can be found here.
