SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams had nine student-athletes compete in the Husky Classic on Friday. Caitlin Heldt moved into the top-five on the program all-time list in the 3,000, while Bailey Smith improved his fourth all-time mark in the same event.
Heldt put together a big race in the women's 3,000 as her time of 10:07.50 not only moved her to fourth on the WOU all-time list, but was over 11 seconds faster than her previous best mark this season. Overall in the event Heldt came in 69th.
Smith, already fourth all-time in the WOU record books in the men's 3,000, shaved some time off of his season-best when he crossed at 8:26.30 on Friday to come in 65th overall. He improved his previous best time by over a second.
Kaylin Cantu also competed in the women's 3,000 and was just a few seconds off of her ninth-best WOU all-time program mark in the event when she posted a time of 10:29.04 to come in 78th.
Sam Cole hit a distance of 51-7.75 in the men's weight throw to come in eighth. Mark Warren was right behind coming in ninth when he hit a mark of 49-2.25.
In the women's weight throw, Liliana Lyness-Morales reached a distance of 45-11.25 to come in 19th. Emillia Carpenter also competed in the event for the Wolves and placed 23rd.
Ana Popchock and Maliyah Thompson both competed in the women's 60 hurdles. During the prelims, Popchock came in 16th with a time of 9.18 and Thompson came in 18th with a time of 9.47.
WOU will continue the Husky Classic on Saturday with events starting around 10 a.m.
