Men’s Track And Field Places Third At GNAC Championships And Collect Most Points Since 2013

SPOKANE, Wash. – The results continued to roll in for the Western Oregon University men's track and field team at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Tuesday. WOU finished with 107.33 points to place third overall collecting their most points since 2013 and tying the 2018 team that placed third.

Western Washington took the title with 171 points, followed by Simon Fraser as they just got past the Wolves with 110 points. Rounding out the top-four was Alaska Anchorage with 83 points.

Hunter Hutton continued to improve on his fourth-best WOU all-time mark in the mile coming in with a time of 4:08.07 to place fourth.

Justin Conklin moved into a tie for seventh on the WOU all-time list in the 60 hurdles when he crossed at 8.49 to place second. Aaron Hanible also picked up points for the Wolves coming in seventh with a time of 8.80.

Dominique Loggins almost won another 60-meter GNAC title when he came in second with a time of 7.02. Loggins claimed the 2020 indoor title when he posted the second-fastest time in school history of 6.86.

Hanible tallied more points for the Wolves in the 400-meter when he crossed in sixth-place with a time of 50.53.

Timothy Rambo added a point for the Wolves in the 800-meter when he crossed in eighth with a time of 1:57.93.

Gabe Arce-Torres collected four points in the 200-meter when he crossed in fifth with a time of 22.62.

Bailey Smith and Keanu Daos competed in the 3,000. Smith came in 11th and was just a few seconds back from picking up points. Daos crossed in 20th.

Conklin and Devin Hasher each tied for sixth in the high jump both reaching a distance of 6-2.75. Gabe Burchfield came in eighth with a mark of 6-0.75.

Owen Collins moved into the top-10 on the all-time list in the shot put when he came in second with a throw of 49-3.75. His new distance ranks him ninth on the all-time list. Sam Cole's mark was close to placing him in the top-10 on the all-time list as well when he hit a distance of 48-6.0 to come in third. Mark Warren came in 10th.

Marlon Harrison picked up some big points in the triple jump hitting a distance of 44-1.25 to come in second. Burchfield added points in the event when he came in sixth with a mark of 41-3.75.

JJ Walker placed third in the heptathlon, followed by Brennen Sorah coming in sixth, Burchfield in seventh and Deshaun Stevens in ninth. Walker tallied 4,463 points to move to second on the all-time list. Over the final three events on Tuesday, Walker placed first in the pole vault, seventh in the 1,000 and eighth in the 60 hurdles. Sorah came away with 4,259 points to move to third on the all-time list. Over the final three events he came in fifth in the pole vault and sixth in both the 1,000 and the 60 hurdles. Burchfield was right behind with 4,208 points which moves him to fifth on the WOU all-time list. Burchfield put together a strong final three events coming in third in the 60 hurdles and fifth in the 1,000 before adding an eighth-place result in the pole vault. Stevens moves to eighth on the all-time list with his point total of 3,742. He won the 1,000 and after no result in the pole vault, he placed ninth in the 60 hurdles.

WOU will now get ready for the SPU Last Chance that will take place this Saturday in Seattle before seeing how many athletes will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Nationals that will take place Mar. 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kan.
