SEATTLE, Wash. – It was the last chance to post some times and marks before nationals as the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams competed in the SPU Final Qualifier on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.
Caitlin Heldt was close to her No. 4 WOU all-time spot in the 3,000 when she crossed at 10:07.67 to come in second.
Jessy Hart nearly broke into the top-10 in program history in the 400-meter coming in at 59.13 to place fourth.
Hunter Hutton won the mile posting a time of 4:09.67.
Marlon Harrison came in second in the triple jump reaching a distance of 42-10.25.
In the 60-meter dash, Maliyah Thompson, Maya Hopwood and Ana Popchock all qualified for the finals. Thompson crossed at 7.80, Hopwood at 7.83 and Popchock at 7.97. Hopwood was the only one of the three to run in the final coming in third with a time of 7.85.
Popchock and Thompson each qualified in the 60 hurdles with Popchock posting a time of 9.02 and Thompson at 9.21. In the final, Popchock came in fourth with a time of 9.01 and Thompson in fifth with a time of 9.11.
Caleb Southworth came in fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.26.
WOU will now wait to see which athletes will qualify for the NCAA National Championships with the selection show taking place this coming Tuesday, March 1 at 3 p.m. Pacific.
