Popchock Sets A School Record, Several Other Marks Move Into Top-10 In Program History During WSU Open/Invitational On Friday

SPOKANE, Wash. – Another school record fell and multiple other top-10 marks were achieved by the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams during the WSU Open/Invitational on Friday.

Ana Popchock set a new school record in the women's 60 hurdles when she posted a time of 8.83 in the finals. After coming across at 8.92 in the prelims, Popchock cut her time even more in the final coming in at the 8.83 clip to come in fourth and set a new school record. Popchock's new time breaks the previous record set by Rochelle Pappel in 2015 with a time of 8.91. Popchock would later improve on her own seventh all-time mark in the triple jump.

Maliyah Thompson continued to move up the top-10 list in both the women's 60-meter dash and the women's 60 hurdles. Thompson's time of 7.86 in the 60-meter dash prelims moved her to third on the all-time list. Then in the 60 hurdles, Thompson crossed at 9.14 to move to seventh on the all-time list.

Luz Garcia moved into the top-10 in the women's 3,000 coming in with a time of 10:26.79 which is good for 10th on the all-time list. Overall in the event Garcia came in 22nd.

Thompson and Maya Hopwood opened the day competing in the women's 60-meter dash. Thompson first had to race in the qualifying round which she placed third with a time of 7.92. Then in the prelims, Thompson set her new time of 7.86 to come in 13th and just miss advancing to the finals. Hopwood came in 15th with a time of 7.90.

In the men's 60-meter dash qualifying, James Mazzeo competed for the Wolves coming in 24th with a time of 7.37.

Brennen Sorah and Justin Conklin almost came across at the same time in the men's 60 hurdles prelims when Sorah came in 15th with a time of 8.75 and Conklin right there at 8.76 to come in 16th. Aaron Hanbile was just a few spots back in 19th with a time of 8.94 and Gabe Burchfield came in 21st.

In the women's 60 hurdles, Popchock started the day strong with a time of 8.92 to come in sixth in the prelims and advance to the final. Thompson set her new season-best time in the event when she crossed at 9.14 to come in 10th and just miss a spot in the final. In the finals, Popchock then set her new school record time of 8.83 to come in fourth overall.

In the women's 200-meter dash, Hopwood competed for the Wolves coming in 29th with a time of 26.46.

Mazzeo also entered in the men's 200-meter dash coming in 41st with a time of 23.53.

Jessy Hart collected a top-15 finish in the women's 400-meter dash coming across of 1:00.02 to place 14th.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Gabe Acre-Torres led three Wolves in the event coming in 51.30 to place 21st. Hanible was right behind coming in 22nd with a time of 51.35. Deshaun Stevens also competed for the Wolves and was just a few places back coming in 23rd with a time of 51.59.

In the men's 800-meter, Timothy Rambo and Dustyn Mckenney entered for the Wolves. Rambo placed 21st with a time of 2:00.51, while Mckenney wasn't far behind in 25th with a time of 2:03.34.

Katie Chapman ran in the women's 800 coming in 33rd with a time of 2:33.26.

Keeton Sanchez led three Wolves in the men's mile when he placed 11th with a time of 4:24.43. Rambo was the next one in for the Wolves placing 15th with a time of 4:27.62. Mckenney also competed for the Wolves and came in 26th.

Caitlin Heldt and Chapman each entered in the women's mile with Heldt coming in 20th with a time of 5:15.07. Chapman came in 31st.

Garcia was the only entry for the Wolves in the women's 3,000 posting her new top-10 all-time mark of 10:26.79 to come in 22nd.

In the women's high jump, Kalulusno Ngaida and Amity Deters each cleared 5-2.25 with Ngaida coming in 11th overall and Deters placing 17th. Macy Clemens also competed in the event for the Wolves and placed 30th.

In the men's high jump, Burchfield hit a height of 6-0.75 to come in 12th.

Clemens and Deters each competed in the women's long jump with Clemens coming in 15th with a mark of 17-0.50. Deters placed 31st.

In the men's long jump, Stevens hit a mark of 21-0.50 to come in 13th. Marlon Harrison also competed for the Wolves and came in 29th.

In the men's shot put, Owen Collins collected a top-10 throw hitting a distance of 47-4.50 to come in ninth. Sam Cole had a throw of 44-11.75 to come in 12th, while Mark Warren was just a few spots back in 16th with a distance of 43-11.25.

In the women's shot put, Moana Gianotti hit a mark of 42-8.25 to come in with a solid eighth.

In the women's triple jump, Popchock improved her PR in the event and her spot in seventh on the all-time list in the triple jump hitting a distance of 36-10.50 to come in fifth. Ngaida hit a distance of 34-3.50 to come in 14th.

Harrison collected a top-five result in the men's triple jump reaching a distance of 43-5 to come in fifth.

In the men's weight throw, Cole came in 16th with a mark of 48-8.75, while Warren came in 22nd with a distance of 44-6.

In the women's weight throw, Gianotti came in 14th with a mark of 49-4.25.

JJ Walker concluded the heptathlon with three events on Friday. He began the day competing in the 60 hurdles coming in 12th and collect 671 points. After no result in the pole vault, Walker concluded the heptathlon in the 1,000-meter run coming in 12th to earn 444 points. Overall, Walker finished 12th in the event.
