SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams will be sending five student-athletes to compete in the Adams/Klein Combined Events that will take place this Thursday and Friday hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Representing the Wolves will be Jenelle Hurley, Amity Deters, Macy Clemens, JJ Walker and Brennen Sorah.
After continuing to add to her school record in the pentathlon from the indoor season, Hurley will look to carry that momentum into the outdoor season competing in the heptathlon. The last time Hurley competed in the event was when she came in third at the GNAC Championships with 4,519 points. Hurley's PR and sixth-best total in the event in school history occurred at the Central Washington Multi coming away with 4,596 points.
Deters is coming off of a new PR mark in the pentathlon from the indoor season when she compiled 3,055 points to come in sixth. That mark also puts her sixth on the WOU all-time list. Deters put together a strong heptathlon from her first outdoor season last year at the GNAC Championships collecting 3,740 points to come in ninth which was a season-best.
This will be Clemens' first chance to compete in the heptathlon as a member of the Wolves after just finishing up her first indoor season. Clemens finished the indoor year strong posting a new season-best in the pentathlon with 2,905 points to place seventh. That mark also ranks her seventh on the WOU all-time list.
Walker is coming off of a new PR and second-best mark in the WOU record books in the heptathlon from the indoor season when he came away with 4,463 points at the GNAC Championships to place third overall. During last year's outdoor season, Walker finished the year coming in second at the GNAC Championships in the decathlon when he posted 6,584 points. That total ranks sixth on the WOU all-time list in the event.
Sorah also had a strong showing during the indoor season in the heptathlon when he came in sixth at the GNAC Championships with 4,259 points. That point total ranks third on the WOU all-time list. This will be Sorah's first chance to compete in a decathlon during the outdoor season. His 2020 indoor heptathlon total at the GNAC Championships was close to his 2022 result when he tallied 4,211 points to place sixth.
Events will begin on Thursday at 12 p.m. and then on Friday events will begin at 11 a.m. Live results are available for the meet and can be found here.
