Wolves Post Multiple Strong Results At Willamette Invitational

SALEM, Ore. – Several more marks moved into the Top 10 record books on Saturday for the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams at the Willamette Invitational.

Both Austin Goldstein and Kaylee Wright continued to move up the Top 10 records in the javelin. Ana Popchock jumped into the Top 10 in the triple jump.

Goldstein's throw went over 200 feet on Saturday eventually landing at 203-2 for another new PR and continued provisional mark. That mark ranks sixth all-time in the program record books. Goldstein came in first on Saturday at Willamette.

Wright continued to add to her PR and provisional mark moving her Top 10 mark that was already 10th on the all-time list and following her throw of 149-5 on Saturday, that distance moves her to sixth on the WOU all-time list. Wright came in first on Saturday at Willamette.

Popchock moved to eighth on the WOU all-time list in the triple jump when she hit a distance od 37-6.75 in the event to come in third on Saturday.

Both James Mazzeo and Marlon Harrison competed in the 100-meter with Mazzeo coming in 10th and Harrison in 13th.

Amari Hendrix, Mazzeo and Carson Austin all entered in the 200-meter with Hendrix coming in seventh with a time of 23.28. Mazzeo placed ninth and Austin in 11th.

Bryce Mefford and Matthew Schenk each tallied top-five finishes in the 800-meter with Mefford coming in third and Schenk in fourth. Mefford's time of 2:01.56 was close to a PR, while Schenk's time of 2:01.98 is a new collegiate PR. Talon Aguilar also competed in the event coming in seventh.

Bailey Smith won the 1,500 when he crossed with the top time of 3:57.15. That time is a new PR time while at WOU for Smith. Keanu Daos, Wyatt Smith and Dustin McKenney all placed 7-8-9 in the event. It was the first time running the 1,500 during the outdoor season at WOU for both Daos and Smith. Cedar Davis-Frankfort also entered in the event for the Wolves coming in 12th.

Justin Conklin and James Duane both entered in the 110 hurdles. Conklin led the way for the Wolves coming in fourth with a time of 15.24 competing in the event for the first time at WOU. It was Duane's second time in the 110 hurdles this season and tallied a new season PR with a time of 15.51 to come in sixth.

Aaron Hanible led the way in the 400 hurdles with a top time of 56.74. It was the first time competing in the event this outdoor season for Hanible.

Gabe Arce-Torres, Hendrix, Caleb Southworth and Hanible all competed in the 4x400 relay coming in fifth with a time of 3:40.92.

Conklin and Devin Hasher entered in the high jump with both hitting a height of 6-2.75. Conklin came in second clearing on the first attempt and Hasher placed third clearing on the second attempt.

Harrison and Jacob Flury competed in the triple jump. Harrison hit a mark of 45-3 to come in third, while Flury reached a distance of 41-0.25 to come in fourth. Harrison's mark was a new PR, while Flury was close to his PR.

In the shot put, Owen Collins, Mark Warren and Gabriel Burchfield entered for the Wolves. Collins led the way winning the event with a throw of 46-8.25. Warren came in third with a throw of 43-10, while Burchfield came in fourth. Both Collins and Warren hit season-best marks in the event.

In the hammer, Warren led the Wolves coming in second with a throw of 143-2. Collins was right behind in third hitting a distance of 141-8.

In addition to Goldstein in the javelin, Eli Nafziger came in fourth hitting a mark of 156-0.

It was a strong showing for the Wolves in the 100-meter with Maya Hopwood and Maliyah Thompson coming in third and fourth. Hopwood crossed at 12.42 and Thompson was right behind at 12.44. Taryn Wilson crossed at 12.63 to place seventh. Josie Lavato came in 11th and Logan Jackson in 14th.

In the 200-meter, Popchock led the way for the Wolves placing third with a time of 26.27. It was Popchock's first outdoor 200 to compete in. Wilson was right behind placing fourth with a time of 26.59. Lavato came in eighth with a time of 27.10.

In the 400-meter, Jessy Hart paced the Wolves finishing runner-up with a time of 59.44. Hart's time is a new season-best in the event.

Katie Chapman added a runner-up result in the 800 when she crossed with a time of 2:23.76. It was Chapman's first outdoor 800 at WOU.

Kaylin Cantu paced the Wolves in the 1,500 when she came in third with a time of 4:53.25. Lindie Larson came in eighth for a new PR in the event, Emily Johnson in 12th and Shannon Smith in 13th.

Popchock was far off her PR time in the 100 hurdles when she crossed in second with a time of 15.31. Hailey Blue came in fourth in the event.

Madeline Lambing and Rilee Carstensen both entered in the 400 hurdles. Lambing came in third with a time of 1:08.03 and Carstensen came in fifth.

Carstensen, Hart, Chapman and Lambing all competed in the 4x400 relay as all three teams finished within a second of each other with the Wolves coming in second with a time of 4:11.48.

In addition to Popchock's mark in the triple jump, Kalulusno Ngaida competed in the event coming in second with a distance of 35-3 and Jackson came in fourth with a mark of 31-2.50.

Liliana Lyness-Morales won the shot put hitting a mark of 38-7. Halle Hargett came in third with a throw of 35-7.75. It was a new PR mark for Lyness-Morales in the event.

Moana Gianotti led the Wolves in the discus hitting a distance of 119-3 to come in fifth. Halle Hargett was right behind in sixth with a distance of 116-8.

It was another PR mark for Lyness-Morales in the hammer when she hit a distance of 139-8 to come in fourth. Gianotti placed fifth, Emillia Carpenter came in 11th and Abigail Sanders came in 13th.

In addition to Wright in the javelin, Lyndee McLauchlin came in fifth with a throw of 122-2 and Carpenter placed sixth with a throw of 116-3.

The upcoming week will be busy for WOU as the Wolves will send athletes to the Mike Fanelli Classic (Mar. 31-Apr. 2), Stanford Invitational (Apr. 1-2) and the Hayward Premiere (Apr. 1-2).
