Softball Hosts Western Washington For Senior Weekend This Saturday And Sunday

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Senior weekend is here for the Western Oregon University softball team when they host Western Washington this Saturday and Sunday starting at 12 p.m. each day at the WOU Softball Field.

WOU will honor their five seniors on Sunday before the games. Below are recaps of each seniors career while at WOU.

Reilly Tidwell

Tidwell spent her entire collegiate career at Western Oregon University after arriving from Mountain View High School in Marana, Ariz. Tidwell began her collegiate career in 2019 pitching in nine games that included five stats. She tallied three wins, two complete games in 27.2 innings and added 23 strikeouts. Tidwell collected her first career win against Malone (OH) tossing 4.2 shutout innings. She also added wins against Northwest Christian and Central Washington. Tidwell pitched in nine games that included seven starts in 2020, coming away with three wins, three complete games in 40 innings and 14 strikeouts. Tidwell put together a stretch of three straight wins in the circle against California (PA), Southern Nazarene and Concordia (NY). She went a season-high 6.2 innings against Davenport. Tidwell pitched in 13 games that included eight starts during the 2021 season, adding two wins, a save in 48 innings and had three complete games with 28 strikeouts. She collected a seven inning no-hitter at Northwest Nazarene and later won another seven inning complete game against the Nighthawks. Her save came against Western Washington working a scoreless inning. So far this season, Tidwell has pitched in 15 games that includes 13 starts, coming away with three wins and three complete games in 64 innings and 44 strikeouts. She tallied wins against Warner Pacific, Saint Martin's and Montana State Billings. Tidwell limited the Saints to no runs on three hits in the shutout road victory and then went all 11 innings in the win over the Yellowjackets throwing 217 pitches. Eight times this year Tidwell has thrown at least four innings and has tossed six or more innings five times. She struck out 10 against Montana State Billings and had multiple strikeouts in 10 games. For her career at WOU, Tidwell has pitched in 46 games that includes 33 starts, tallying 11 wins, 11 complete games and a save in 179.2 innings and has 109 strikeouts.

Logan Carlos

Carlos spent her entire collegiate career at WOU after arriving from Maryknoll High School in Mililani, Hawaii. Carlos saw time in 14 games that included a start during her first season in 2019. She tallied two hits, five runs and a walk. Carlos recorded her first collegiate hit against Malone (OH). During the 2020 season, Carlos played in 23 games that were all starts, posting 13 hits, 11 runs, three doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and nine walks. She tallied multiple hits in five games, reaching a season-high three against Central Washington. Carlos drove in four runs against Sonoma State. During the 2021 season, Carlos saw time in 28 games that were all starts, collecting 21 hits, 11 runs, four doubles, a home run, seven RBI, 10 walks and a stolen base. Carlos had six multi-hit games reaching a season-high four against Saint Martin's and in that same game she scored three runs and drove in four. Carlos added a two RBI game against Central Washington. Carlos has put together a big senior season and either leads the team or is second on the team in several categories. She has played in 42 games, all starts, collecting 54 hits, 30 runs, seven doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 32 RBI, 19 walks and a stolen base while hitting .380. Carlos leads the team in batting average, hits, triples, RBI and walks and is tied for the team lead in runs scored and is second in home runs. Carlos has multiple hits in 16 games, reaching a high of three against five teams. She scored multiple runs in four games, with a high of three against Hawaii Hilo. Carlos drove in multiple runs in nine games, with a season-high four against Montana State Billings. Carlos has hit a home run in nine games this year. For her career, Carlos has played in 107 games that includes 94 starts, 90 hits, 57 runs, 14 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 47 RBI, 39 walks and two stolen bases.

Maddie Mayer

Mayer spent her entire collegiate career at WOU after arriving from Rex Putnam High School in Portland, Ore. Mayer started her career strong earning GNAC Freshman of the Year honors in the circle during the 2019 season after picking up 12 wins and two saves in 20 appearances that included 15 starts. She added 13 complete games and pitched in 112 innings, adding 56 strikeouts. In her first collegiate start, Mayer went nine innings to get the win versus Cal State Monterey Bay. She later added wins against Chico State, Simon Fraser (twice), Saint Martin's San Francisco State (twice), Northwest Nazarene, Montana State Billings, Concordia (OR) (three times). Her saves came against Malone (OH) and Central Washington. Mayer had multiple strikeouts in 15 games with a season-high seven (twice). That season WOU advanced to the NCAA West Regional where Mayer pitched in three games, allowing just one earned run in 15.1 innings and won two games. During the 2020 season, Mayer pitched in 13 games that included 10 starts, coming away with six wins, eight complete games and a save in 70.1 innings, adding 53 strikeouts. Mayer opened the season with a seven inning win against Sonoma State and also defeated Eastern Oregon, #1 Texas A&M-Kingsville, Saint Rose, Wilmington and Montana State Billings. She added a save against Southern Nazarene. Mayer went a season-high 9.2 innings at Saint Martin's and went at least five innings in nine games. She tallied multiple strikeouts in 10 games with a season-high 12 against the Yellowjackets. Mayer pitched in 14 games that included seven starts during the 2021 season, coming away with four wins, three complete games and a save in 54.2 innings and 27 strikeouts. Mayer had wins against Northwest Nazarene, Montana State Billings, Central Washington and Saint Martin's and added a save against the Wildcats. She tossed a season-high 8.2 innings in the win against the Nighthawks and went at least four innings in eight appearances. Mayer had multiple strikeouts in nine games with a high of five (twice). So far this season, Mayer has six wins and a save in 20 games that includes 13 starts with eight complete games in 91.1 innings and 68 strikeouts. She opened the season with a six inning win against Bushnell and added wins against Stanislaus State, San Francisco State, Montana State Billings, Saint Martin's and Academy of Art. Her save came against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Mayer has thrown at least six innings in nine games and has gone seven innings in five games. For her career, Mayer has pitched in 67 games that includes 45 starts, 28 wins, five saves, 32 complete games in 328.1 innings and has 204 strikeouts.

Maddie Brandner

Brandner spent her entire collegiate career at WOU after arriving from Tri-Cities Prep in Pasco, Wash. Brandner made her collegiate debut during the 2019 season against Northwest Christian tallying a run scored. Following a redshirt season in 2020, Brandner saw time in three games during the 2021 season, collecting a double and a pair of RBI against Montana State Billings. So far this season, Brandner has played in 18 games that includes 13 starts. She tallied hits against Saint Martin's, Dominican (CA) and Stanislaus State and drove in runs against Dominican (CA) and Saint Martin's. She also drew five walks on the year. For her career, Brandner has played in 22 games that includes 13 starts, tallying four hits and four RBI.

Zoie Recolan

Recolan spent her entire collegiate career at WOU after arriving from James Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Recolan began her collegiate career during the 2019 season playing against Chico State. In her first start she tallied three walks. During the 2020 season, Recolan played in 13 games, all starts, posting 15 hits, six runs, two doubles, nine RBI, five walks and two stolen bases. Her first collegiate hit was against San Francisco State and drove in her first collegiate run against Colorado Christian. Recolan had four multi-hit games that year, reaching a high of three (twice) and had a pair of RBI against Colorado Christian. During the 2021 season, Recolan played in 23 games that included 21 starts, tallying 17 hits, four runs, three doubles, four RBI, and four walks. She had five multi-hit games that season coming away with two hits each time. Recolan drove in two runs in three different games. So far this season, Recolan has played in 39 games that includes 38 starts, she has 38 hits, 14 runs, 10 doubles, a triple, a home run, 15 RBI, 15 walks and three stolen bases. She has 10 multi-hit games reaching a season-high four against Montana State Billings. Recolan also scored a season-high three runs in that game and added three RBI versus Hawaii Pacific and drove in two against the Yellowjackets. For her career, Recolan has played in 76 games that includes 72 starts, 70 hits, 24 runs, 15 doubles, a triple, a home run, 28 RBI, 27 walks and five stolen bases.
 

WOU enters the week 19-23 overall and 4-12 in GNAC play. The Wolves are 10-4 at home this season. The regular season is already down to the final two weekends as WOU will then play at Central Washington next Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 30-May 1). Entering the week in the GNAC standings, Saint Martin's and Northwest Nazarene are tied for first at 13-3, with Western Washington in third at 11-5. Central Washington holds the fourth and final qualifying spot for the GNAC Championships at 9-11. Simon Fraser is fifth at 6-10, followed by WOU at 4-12 and Montana State Billings at 4-16.

The Wolves were close in several of the games this past weekend in Idaho falling in extra innings in the first game and then fell late in the second game on Friday. Strong pitching paced Northwest Nazarene to the sweep on Saturday, allowing just three hits in 12 innings.

WOU hasn't played at home since Mar. 27 when they faced Saint Martin's and split the Sunday series.

Logan Carlos enters the week leading the team in batting average (.380), hits (54), triples (5), RBI (32), walks (19) and is tied for the team lead in runs scored (30) and is second on the team in home runs (9). Natalie Willoughby leads the team in home runs (10) and is tied for the team lead with Carlos in runs scored (30). She is tied for the team lead in doubles (10) and is second in RBI (30) and batting average (.348). Zoie Recolan is tied with Willoughby for the team lead in doubles with 10, while adding a .330 average, 38 hits, a triple, a home run and 15 RBI, along with 15 walks. Sophie Franklin is hitting .292 with 28 hits, six doubles, two triples and 15 RBI, along with seven stolen bases to lead the team. Maddie Doig is right behind hitting .284 with 33 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Kirah McGlothan is hitting .282 with 33 hits, eight doubles, three home runs, 25 RBI, 15 walks and three stolen bases. Kate Ronning adds 31 hits, 21 runs, four doubles and 11 RBI, while Erica Soliz is hitting .345 with 20 hits, four doubles and 14 RBI.

In the circle, Maddie Mayer has the low ERA on the team at 3.14 in 91.1 innings, picking up six wins, a save and eight complete games, along with 68 strikeouts. Chelsea Smith has a team-high nine wins, along with eight complete games in 86 innings, coming away with 95 strikeouts and has a 3.66 ERA. Reilly Tidwell has three wins on the season in 64 innings, holding a 3.72 ERA and has three complete games with 44 strikeouts. Nicki Derrick has a win and a save on the season in 19 innings, while Jada Young has pitched in 10 innings and Erica Soliz in three innings.

Western Washington is 25-18 overall on the season and 11-5 in GNAC play, going 17-14 away from home and 12-5 in true road contests. The Vikings are coming off of a 2-2 split at home against Central Washington winning the final two games of the series by scores of 4-2 and 3-1. All four games were low scoring, with the teams combining to tally just 18 runs over the weekend.

Chantelle Shimabukuro leads the Vikings with a .424 average, coming away with 50 hits, seven doubles, three triples, three home runs and 26 RBI. Dakota Brooks adds a .367 average with 47 hits, 12 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 35 RBI. Tatum Dow is right behind with a .351 average, posting 52 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI. In the circle, Sydney Brown leads the way with a 3.19 ERA, eight wins and eight complete games in 79 innings, coming away with 68 strikeouts. Kira Doan has a team-high nine wins with a 3.90 ERA and 10 complete games in 115.1 innings, adding a save and 74 strikeouts. Joie Baker has pitched in 80.2 innings, coming away with eight wins and a 5.36 ERA with five complete games and 64 strikeouts.

The teams played earlier this season in Bellingham back on Mar. 4 with the Vikings coming back late to win the first game, 5-3, before taking the second game, 8-0, in five innings. Carlos had all three RBI in the doubleheader, hitting a solo home run and a two-run single.

Western Washington has gone 7-3 in the past 10 meetings and holds a 26-20 record in Monmouth since 2002. WWU went 3-1 at WOU last year with the Wolves taking game three of the series, 5-3.

WOU and WWU will open their four-game GNAC series this Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at the WOU Softball Field. Senior Day will take place on Sunday with another doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
