Wolves Post Solid Results Once Again During John Knight Twilight

MONMOUTH, Ore. – In the only home meet of the 2022 outdoor season, the Western Oregon University men's and women's track and field teams took advantage of competing on their home track and field putting together another round of strong results during John Knight Twilight on Friday. It was also Senior Day as the Wolves honored their 11 seniors: Justin Crosswhite, Moana Gianotti, Taryn Wilson, Aaron Hanible, Logan Jackson, Devin Hasher, Gabe Arce-Torres, Samuel Cole, Owen Collins, Austin Goldstein and Kaylin Cantu.

Jenelle Hurley set a new PR and moved up the WOU all-time list in the 100 hurdles winning the event with a time of 14.55. Her new time moves to fourth on the all-time list.

Maliyah Thompson added a PR also in the 100 hurdles crossing at 15.09 to come in third. Ana Popchock was right behind in fourth with a time of 15.17. Amity Deters was the next one across for the Wolves in fifth with a time of 15.79. Macy Clemens came in sixth with a time of 16.14 and Hailey Blue rounded out the results for the Wolves in eighth.

Brennen Sorah was close to a PR in the 110 hurdles when he won the event with a time of 15.67.

Thompson led the Wolves in the 100-meter coming in second with a time of 12.36. Maya Hopwood was right behind in third with a time of 12.51. Taryn Wilson and Josie Lavato nearly crossed at the same time with Wilson coming in at 12.95 to place sixth and Lavato crossing at 12.96 to place seventh.

Amari Hendrix set a new season-best in the 100-meter when he posted a time of 11.16 to come in second. James Mazzeo came in fourth with a time of 11.50.

Thompson continued her strong day coming in runner-up in the 200-meter with a time of 25.55 which is a new PR. Jessy Hart was the next one across for the Wolves in third with a time of 26.55. Wilson wasn't far behind in fourth with a time of 26.98. Lavato rounded out the results for the Wolves coming in fifth.

Danny Cossette began his track and field career at WOU competing in the 200-meter coming in sixth with a time of 24.65. Cossette also was the main placekicker for the Wolves this past fall season. Carson Austin came in right behind Cossette in seventh with a time of 24.68.

Madeline Lambing hit a new PR in the 400 hurdles and nearly moved into the top 10 on the WOU all-time record book lists in the process coming in runner-up with a time of 1:04.42. Rilee Carstensen came in fourth.

Aaron Hanible placed first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.67.

Justin Crosswhite cruised to the win in the 800 with a time of 1:53.55. Emmett Klus came in second with a time of 1:56.18. Keeton Sanchez added a time of 1:57.25 to come in third. Timothy Rambo crossed in fourth with a time of 1:58.15. Dustyn Mckenney came in fifth with a time of 2:00.97. Bryce Mefford came in sixth and Matthew Schenk placed seventh.

Peyton Green competed in her first 800 of the outdoor season coming in sixth with a time of 2:27.54.

Caitlin Heldt opened her outdoor season running in the 1,500 as she won the event with a time of 4:54.68. Katie Chapman came in right behind in second with a time of 4:56.36. Lindie Larson placed sixth and Emily Johnson came in seventh.

Mark Warren hit a distance of 119-11 in the discus to come in third for a new PR.

Halle Hargett and Krystal Andres nearly hit the same mark in the discus when Hargett placed sixth hitting a distance of 124-5 and Anders came in eighth with a mark of 123-3 for a new PR.

Samuel Cole was close to his PR in the hammer when he won the event with a distance of 166-8. Owen Collins hit a new PR in the hammer with a distance of 165-7 to come in runner-up. Warren added a PR with a distance of 156-6 to come in third.

Liliana Lyness-Morales hit a new PR in the hammer reaching a distance of 148-8 to come in fifth. Moana Gianotti was right behind in sixth with a distance of 146-8. Emillia Carpenter added a PR distance of 141-11 to come in seventh. Abigail Sanders rounded out the results for the Wolves placing 12th.

Deters placed fourth in the high jump reaching a height of 5-3.

Devin Hasher came in second to lead the Wolves in the high jump with a height of 6-2.75.

Kaylee Wright led the way in the javelin hitting a mark of 144-4 to win the event. Lyndee McLauchlin came in third with a distance of 129-3. Carpenter added a throw of 115-1 to come in fifth. Clemens also competed in the javelin coming in seventh.

Austin Goldstein led the way in the javelin approaching another 200-foot throw when he won the event with a distance of 194-10. Eli Nafziger hit a new PR in the event when he came in runner-up with a distance of 178-10. Gabe Burchfield came in sixth with a distance of 120-3.

Hurley was approaching her PR in the long jump reaching a distance of 18-1 to come in runner-up. Ana Popchock hit a PR in the event when she came in third with a distance of 17-4.25. Clemens was close to her PR hitting a mark of 16-11.25 to come in fifth.

Marlon Harrison led the Wolves in the long jump reaching a distance of 20-5.25, which was close to his PR, to come in runner-up. Brennen Sorah was also approaching his PR in the event coming in fourth with a mark of 20-0.50. Jacob Flury just beat his PR in the long jump hitting a distance of 19-9.75 to come in sixth. Mazzeo rounded out the results for the Wolves coming in seventh with a mark of 19-2.75.

Collins led the Wolves in the shot put coming in runner-up with a distance of 46-4. Warren placed fourth with a distance of 42-10.75. Burchfield came in seventh with a distance of 34-7.

Gianotti paced the Wolves in the shot put coming in fourth with a distance of 40-7.50. Lyness-Morales was right behind in fifth with a distance of 37-6.75. Halle Hargett came in eighth with a distance of 36-1.25. Hurley placed 10th and Deters came in 14th.

Popchock was just off her PR mark in the triple jump reaching a distance of 37-6 to win the event. Kalulusno Ngaida came in third hitting a distance of 35-0.50. Blue placed fourth with a distance of 32-11.75. Rounding out the results for the Wolves, Logan Jackson came in sixth.

Harrison also led the way for the Wolves in the triple jump coming in runner-up with distance of 42-4.25. Flury came in third hitting a distance of 41-4.50.

In the relays, the women's 4x100 (Hopwood, Wilson, Popchock, Thompson) came in first with a time of 48.91. The men's 4x100 (Hanible, Cossette, Hendrix, Mazzeo) came in first with a time of 44.69. The women's 4x400 relay (Clemens, Deters, Hurley, Hart) came in first with a time of 4:17.44. The women's 4x400 relay (Chapman, Heldt, Larson, Green) came in second with a time of 4:28.77. The men's 4x400 relay (Klus, Rambo, Crosswhite, Sanchez) came in first with a time of 3:27.35.

WOU will now prepare to travel to California this coming week to compete at the Mt. Sac Relay (Apr. 13-16), Long Beach Invitational (Apr. 14-16) and the Bryan Clay Invitational (Apr. 14-15).
