ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Austin Goldstein and Bailey Smith each came in fourth in their events on Friday to lead the Western Oregon University men's track and field team during day one of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
Goldstein reached a distance of 197-4 in the javelin to come in fourth, while Smith placed fourth in the 3,000 steeple with a time of 9:21.42.
Overall, WOU tallied 19 points on day one, with Western Washington leading the way with 92 points, followed by Northwest Nazarene in second with 65 points. Then there is a significant drop between second and third with Montana State Billings in third with 21 points.
WOU ended up with 11 points in the javelin as Collin Warmouth was right behind Goldstein in fifth with a distance of 188-8. Eli Nafziger also added points coming in seventh with a throw of 171-2.
Devin Hasher tallied points in the high jump coming in sixth reaching a height of 6-2.25.
Justin Conklin just missed picking up points in the high jump coming in ninth with a height of 6-0.5. Brennen Sorah came in 13th.
Keanu Daos came in 11th in the 10,000.
Bryce Mefford also competed in the 3,000 steeple with Smith coming in 12th.
Marlon Harrison placed 16th in the long jump.
In the prelims, Dominique Loggins won the qualifying round of the 100 with a time of 10.82. Amari Hendrix also competed just missing a qualifying spot coming in 11th.
Conklin also competed in the 110 hurdles as he just missed advanced coming in 11th.
Gabe Arce-Torres had a strong showing in the 400 qualifying for the final with a time of 49.52.
WOU had four entries in the 800 with Emmett Klus posting a strong time of 1:52.26 to qualify for the finals. Keeton Sanchez was close to advancing, but just fell short coming in 11th. Justin Crosswhite placed 14th and Timothy Rambo came in 16th.
The second and final day of the GNAC Championships continues tomorrow (Saturday) with events starting around 10:15 a.m.
